Question about Mercury Marquis

3 Answers

My mercury marquis domelight fails to turn off after 30-50 seconds after closing the door. A mechanic checked all the door switches. Said they're fine. The dome lights do eventually go out...but only after 20 minutes. What's the problem?

What year model?

It would be hard to tell you without knowing what year model you have and if it has keyless entry pad on door or not but it could be several things.

If it is a newer model say 99 up this is controlled by the lightning control model which is mounted under dash above the accel pedal. It could be something as simple as the thumb wheel switch next to the light switch is rotated all the way up until it is clicked into place. This could cause interior lights to stay on until the module times out which would take about 20-30 minutes.

It could be if you have keyless entry the key pad may be bad.In this case you may see the keypad lighting up on it's own at times.Press each button one at a time and see if the pad lights up,give it time to turn off before pressing next button. If you find a dead button then keypad is the problem.

It could be a door adjar switch sticking. You can spray WD40 in the latches on the side of the door and open and close door several times. If one is sticking this will correct it most of the time.

It could also be a bad lightning control module itself in which case your mechanic should be able to hook up a scan tool and retrieve fault codes from it.

Hi!

Did you checked the switch on the light? Check for a shorted or loose connection.

Alos check out for the interior lamp relay and probably a loose wire. Sometimes its possible that the wires leading up to the door swtiches have been crimped and are shorting against each other.

    Please ask for further clarifications.

    Thanks

My 1995 grand marquis will not crank at all

first of all check to make sure the engine is not locked up but placing a socket wrench on the crank shaft bolt. Try to turn it clockwise, if you can not bug it, its locked up. Second do you hear a click from the starter when you turn the ignition key, Not a click from the ign. switch. If you hear a clicking nose from the starter solenoid then more than likely you need a new starter.

Where is the door chime on a1995 mercury grand marquis

It's the same as the lights left on and the key in door open its called the generic eletronic module and it's in the dash to the right of the steering collum. Why do you want to know as all kinds of things are run by this device and it costs plenty. If it keeps chimbing and you want to stop it all kinds of things don't work with it unplugged ( interior light's cruise control, air conditioner and heat,Radio,Automatic headlights. Daytime running lights) If its saying the doors open, it is! Just because it looks closed doesn't mean that they are the most likly is the driver door and the switch is in the door latch that holds the door closed. The switches rust break fall off or get disconnected. worset problem is the wire from the switch breaks in the door hinge area and the wire will need to be found and replaced or repaired. The modules seldom fail unless submererised in water or the battery hooked up backwards or jumped off wrong battery cable removed while the engine in running but alot of this other stuff will work wrong too.

Car will turnover but will not start. tried jumping it but it didn't help.

Check in the trunk and look at the sides where you will see an opening with a switch. There is one for the fuel pump and another for the air suspension if it has one.

The fuel pump switch has a button on top; push it and hold for 3 seconds. Do not slam the trunklid or the doors. Try to start the car first. You should now hear the fuelpump motor hum for a second or two when you turn the key. If the fuelpump switch(Inertia switch) helped then a door or trunklid was closed just enough to trip the switch. It should be okay now.

If the car does not start you need to determine whether it is missing the spark or the gas. Let us know if it started.

Door ajar light on

A trick to try first and this works the majority of the time. Take a can of WD40 and open each door and spray a generous amount into each latch on the side of the door. Then open and close the door several times. Most of the time this will unstick the door adjar switch.
