As far as the car reving up when its cold it is probaly a dirty IAC or Idle Air Control valve its only function is to control the idle if you can locate it it is on the intake right bye the butterfly and the throttle postion sensor. And as far as the slow take off it may be the cataletic converters they are exspensive to replace but if clogged up will make the car run like adogg at take off and kill fuel milage

Timing problm

engine timing could be off.for the mercedes benz inline 6 cylinder ignition timing 7 - 11 degrees before top top dead center with idle set speed 650- 700 rpm. make sure engine tuned up before adjusting ignition timing.replace spark plugs and wires, replace distributor cap and rotor.change fuel filter and air filter and clean fuel injectors.if engine still stall out have fuel pressure checked should be 77 - 80 psi. if your car have the EZL CONTROL UNIT ADJUSTS TIMING AUTOMATICALLY NO ADJUSTMENT IS POSSIBLE.

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire

I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

What are the necessary repairs for a 2002 S500 Mercedes with 91000 miles? What should your car be serviced for by this point

Hi, this really depends on its service history.

The following are the recommended service intervals on the Merc S500:

Note: operate A/C at least once per week, to maintain lubrication.

Underhood & Undervehicle

Every 3,000 miles - Replace engine oil & oil filter. Clean battery terminals. Adjust drive belt. Check power steering fluid. Check steering & CV BOOTS for wear and replace if necessary. Lubricate front end suspension.

Every 6,000 miles - Check transmission fluid condition and level. Check brake pads and caliper components - replace if necessary. Lubricate driveshaft U-joints. Rotate tires. Lubricate wiper arm linkage and pivots.

Every 12,000 miles - Adjust engine valve clearance. Replace distributor cap & rotor. Drain and replace engine Coolant. Replace Air Filter element. Replace Fuel Filter. Replace wiper blades.

Every 24,000 miles - Replace Drive Belt. Replace A/C Compressor Drive Belt. ** Change auto transmission fluid & trans filter (this is critical and must be adhered to) - preferrably do a trans flush at same time. Replace drive AXLE fluid.

Every 36,000 miles - Replace HT leads.

Every 2 years - Replace brake fluid (also clutch fluid if applicable). Replace power steering fluid.

** If you intend to keep this vehicle long term, then consider changing the trans fluid & filter every 20,000 miles. This is the secret to automatic transmission longevity.

Hi Atsy,
I'd believe that the problem could be a bent distributor cam shaft (The center shaft inside the distributor.
Have it checked and if I've been a clever boy you can give me a rating

I would change the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, check and change air filter if dirty, check timing, check and top off all fluids, check or change transmission fluid, check brake pads/.shoes and drums/rotors for wear and check tire pressure, check the condition of all belts and hoses and replace as needed, check condition of radiator antifreeze and top off or replace as needed.

Engine will turn over, won't fire

There are only 2 things to make it fire: having fuel and having spark. Pull out one plug and have a helper to start the engine while you hold the spark plug touching the engine chassis to see if it sparks. If there is then open the air filter to put some of fuel in tho start. It if is starts then you know what the problem is. No spark, look for problem at the ignition coil , rotor and distributor cap. No fuel , look for problem the fuel pump relay behind the battery. Good luck.

1990 MERCEDES BENZ 500 DIES WHILE DRIVING

When were plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coils replaced? fuel filter another culprit. Fuel distributor is another problem as it is mechanical in your year. Fuel injectors also could be an issue but easily rebuildable. More info wold help but fuel delivery and ignition parts need to be checked and replaced for us to help more.

Try a fuel line/injector cleaner it may be blockage in the fuel lines or injectors or if you are in an area where rust is a problem may also be a bit of git clogging fuel flow from pump

1993 mercedes sl300 convertable

Hi,
The early 300 SL suffered from dodgy HT leads and spark plugs if not regularly maintained, the problem with Mercedes Benz though is that the cars have so many features that it is almost impossible to diagnose without seeing the car. Some things to try (in this order) are : - Spark plugs, Ht leads, remove and clean Distributer Cap, replacement of HFM sensor (common fault), if none of these help then faults have been known in throttle valves and fuel pumps/filters

Happy fault finding
