Question about 1998 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Excessive revving, even when I took the key out!!

I bought a Ford Escort 1.6td from some small garage at christmas time. its approx 1998.

I drove it straight down the morotway when I realised that, infact it was empty of oil. I couldnt stop and decided that.. i would slowly crawl back to my house. I phoned the guy who basically said 'tough'.

When I got home I filled it with oil straight away, but upon checking the dipstick now have realised that I way way way overfilled it.

It was clapping hard before i put oil in it, and when I put oul in it, it started making gloop noises at me as i was driving.

On the way home from work, It revved out of control and I had a plume of black smoke behind me. I took the key out but it carried on and was going crazy!!! I put it in gear and stalled it. The next day I drove it to the garage to buy some new oil but it cut out and died completely.

The car has been sat outside my house now since christmas, and I really would like to get it working again, I only drove it about 200 miles in total.

If I was to change the oil would that help? Is this car financially worth playing with by myself? Would I need to change anything else?

Any help here would be really appreciated!

Thanking you all in advance

Matt

Is it burning oil or losing oil, driving it without oil may have damaged it,and putting too much oil and driving it may have pop the crank seals, inspect engine, decide what to do,not agood sign for motor,

1998 Ford Taurus- My fiance's Grandparents bought her this car and we drove it for less than an hour, a total of about 10 miles before it broke down. It started leaking coolant, so we parked it and came...

sounds like the transmission is gone. If they bought it from a dealership then you should at least have a 30 day warranty. If it was bought from a private owner, depending on the state, it could be covered by the lemon law. Most states have a lemon law on used automobiles. Good luck. P.S. sounds like the battery could be dead if you have to keep jump starting it.

Check compression. This car is fuel injected right? Check for fuel at injectors.
Timing belt good not loose (supposed to be changed approx every 60,000 mi.)

I have a 2001 ford escort. When I run the A/C in park or nuetral not a problem but when I put in drive it really causes excessive vibration. Any suggestions on possiple fix?

chances are the engine mounts are weak due to the cars age(you will feel the vibration more)the vibration is caused by the loading of the a/c and the torque converter.Engine vibation is felt much more on small/high revving engines(try a 1000cc with a/c and auto, great for granny,45 on freeway)

How to remove the radio in order to fix it on a 98 ford escort lx

Here is a video showing how to remove a standard radio from the dashboard.
A pair of extractors are required (available from Ebay , Halfords etc ) but these can be made from 2 pieces of bent, wire
coat-hanger or 4 small drills(using the blunt end) or 4 small Allen Keys or 4 small screwdrivers or 4 nails or even 4 darts.

An assistant is useful to pull the radio out whilst you are releasing the 4 securing clips

note: on some radios , these 4 holes are protected by 4 small screws. These can be unscrewed using the appropriate size of Allen key.
