Question about 1987 Oldsmobile Ciera

My 1987 Cutlass Ciera will start but dies after two seconds.

My 1987 Cutlass Ciera will start but dies after two or three seconds. I watched as a friend attempted to start it, and a small plume of exhaust was ejected out of a 2cm whole in the front of the Engine. Almost immediately the car died again...I assume the two are connected. My guess is that the whole in the front of the engine should have either a plug in it or a whose attached to it. Is this some kind of pressure issue?

The whole is as centered on the front of the engine. That is, as much as anything can be centered on a shape like the front of a Tech-IV.

I should add that the whole looks perfectly uniform....it's not a wierd crack or anything, it's an even circle.

I figured out what the problem was....it just took a little digging. The whole I saw was the place where the O2 sensor was supposed to enter the exhaust manifold. The bolt that attaches it has rusted and broken off. I'll try to see if I can replace the bolt, if not I'll have to replace the O2 sensor.

How to replace fuel injectors on a 1988 olds cutlass ciera v6

There is a You Tube Video you can watch
on GM Throttle Body disassembly

I would mail them away for testing & ultra-sonic
cleaning

Not likely the injectors are causing the dieing

Check for a worn timing chain & vacuum leaks

How do I troubleshoot ''no spark'' problem with my 90 cutlass ciera

if it has a distributor, check to see if it has power when you turn the key to the on position. theres a couple of wires back there, i think its three. one of them should be supplied with 12v when you turn the key, the same goes if its only two wires, one needs to be powered. without power to the distributor, no power "distributed" to spark plugs.

Engine mount location for a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

This is a 4 cyl transverse mounted engine, and it has 3 engine mounts one in front and one on the subframe in the backside of the block and another holds the transaxel. If you have some poping sounds when starting or hard shifing of the gears, then one or more may need replacing.

Sounds like it could be the fuel pump or injectors.
