It barely takes a half a gallon, not very much white smoke, it dies right after you start it, or sometimes it just decides to die right on the road, after it has warmed up.

Is There Anyway to tell w/o ripping off the lower intake manifold.. spark plugs, compression test, etc??? I know head gaskets are also prone to fail on this engine

Why does my car try to die when i drive down the road?

Try to check the ignition coil, when you driving it become hot then the car dies end won't start. After awhile when it's cold, then it will start. Replace the ignition coil.
I hope it solves the problem

when you overheat an engine. certain parts expand more than usual. like pistons, crankshaft and camshaft bearings. im afraid its time to overhaul the engine. inspect for cracks etc...
