Question about 1999 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

HVAC controls do not work

Originally the control for which vents the heat and a/c would blow would periodically not function, then they only blew out of the dash vents at full blast, now they do not blow at all.

I took mine apart and the switch was melted. I bought a new switch and it melted too. I believe there is a short or something in the wiring I have to find it yet.

I would check the switch, but as jrc3 said, something has caused it. I would track the entire wire harness from switch to motor and replace all. There is a short some where and it will eventually burnout your fan motor also.

What caused heat to stop working?

same answer on all cars. nice photo, so rare here, shocking that.
in order,......
1: sure the blower must blow.
2: the engine must get to min. 180F , if not, thermostat bad in engine.
3: ok, engine is hot, so the heater core must get hot next. it has 2 hoses, we feel them with hands, are both hot?, yes, then the core is most-likely hot. (inside) (if not core is packed in gunk inside)
ever do 2year cooling flushes< (oops. zero service lands you here)
4: the controls must open the dampers, if not? bad controls
5: if the controls work and dampers fail, then the dampers are bad.

all answers assumes , cooling system full to top of RAD.
your car uses 3 damper motors. (electric)
that operate them by controls
the motor for temp is called temperature actuator motor.
the controller is called HVAC controller
did you scan the PLC to see if HVAC controller has errors.
the controller needs fuse 15 good. Cab fuse box ."hvac-rfa"
the controller use a network, data comm .
if you scan the PCM and it tells you the HVac comms are dead
what do you know? (means you cant fix it)
its not just a simple switch like in 1990 (gone)
its all computer controlled now.

check fuse first
scan 2nd.
like we do on all modern cars, or , its all just a guessing game.

Heat does not blow onto windscreen but blows through other vents - whats wrong

What make an model an year vehicle do you have ? The air blows out of the floor vents an center vents but not defrost ? Possible mode actuator , stuck mode door ! There is a door inside the heater / A/C assembly that directs the air to the desired position . These doors can be moved by a vacuum operated actuator or an electric motor . Sometimes thing's put on the dash end up inside the heater box , fall through defroster vent ! Pens , pencils etc.. Depends on the make vehicle an system , manual , or automatic climate control . Some of the newer vehicles the HVAC system as it is called , the control panel is a electronic control module an can store DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !

Olds bravada only blows hot air

Is yours manual or Automatic HVAC system ? heating ventilation air conditioning . When is the last time you tried it ? did it work then , last year ? Where do you live south , north ? Have you had any refrigerant added lately ?
The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system is divided into three separate sections. The first, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, has all procedures that pertain to a HVAC component or function that is not specifically associated with the manual control system. The second, HVAC Systems-Manual, has all procedures specific to the manual control system.
Begin the system diagnosis with the:
?€¢
Symptoms - HVAC Systems - Manual in HVAC Systems-Manual for 4.3 L without DTCs

?€¢
Diagnostic System Check - HVAC Systems - Manual in HVAC Systems-Manual for 2.2 L with DTCs

?€¢
Diagnostic System Check - HVAC Systems - Automatic in HVAC Systems-Automatic for 4.3 L with DTCs

The Diagnostic System Check will provide the identification of the control module(s) which command the system.
The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Review the Description and Operation information to help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the Description and Operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation.

My heat on blows from the defrost how do i fix?

The heat/vent blend door that is located inside of the HVAC system behind dash..Rarely it is the control however it could be....Some of the vent door issues are recalls on certain vehicles."Also Blend vent door actuators that operate the doors can become inoperable...If it is the door inside the HVAC it will probably take about 8 hours to repair...Most vent doors either stick shut and or break..as well as actuators....Only a Dealer Scanner can tell exactly where the problem is.....

Heat blowing out

if its just the vents that dont work, check the actuator or cable (that controls the vent, def, or floor) on the hvac box under the dash.
If no air flow at any time, you probly have a plugged up box. remove the blower motor and clean out what you can, also remove the grate under the wiper arms and clean them out.

2004 GMC Yukon XL: The A/C System will only blow air from defroster ducts. I had to disconnect the battery to replace an SRS Sensor. This problem happened after a dead battery but corrected itself. How can...

It's possible the HVAC needs to recalibrate itself, try the following;
With key on, set all HVAC controls and switches to their OFF or CCW positions. Turn key off, disconnect battery for a few minutes, then reconnect battery. Turn key on, but do not touch any HVAC controls for about 2 - 3 minutes. After that, see if the vents and all other functions work. If this does not solve the problem, either the mode control actuator(s) or mode door(s) are stuck or defective.

04 Chevy Tahoe Climate control issues.

HVAC control head problem or it is the air Temp Control Valve problem. THe control head is the one with the buttons and knobs and the control vavle is located on the HVAC carrier assembly underneath dashboard (two of them one on left and one on right in center). This is a job for someone who has knowledge of HVAC and electrical on a GM vehicle.
