Question about 1998 Volkswagen Jetta
1998 volkswagon jetta manual transmission is hard to get into any gear..It feels like the shifter has too much play....
There are a number of bushing that wear out. Have someone shift it, engine off, while you watch linkage in engine compartment.

I did a transmission filter kit with new fluid when i had the same problem and it seemed to help you should try that!!!! if not your ****** could be going there known to be bad in jettas!!!!!!!!!!

I'd check the fluid levels... on most if not all 98's there is no tranny fluid stick so you have to either look for the plug on the transmission. Most cars have 2. One on the bottom and one half way up from the bottom of the transmission driver's side. Top it off until the tranny fluid runs out of the hole.
If this doesnt help... you need to get it checked.
