Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

I have a 97 Chevy Blazer w/ 181,000 miles. When

I have a 97 Chevy Blazer w/ 181,000 miles. When turning the key to the on position the dash board indicator lights do not come on immediately or at all. Average there is a 6 - 7 second delay. Obviously the vehicle will not start until the dash lights are working. I have to assume it is the ignition switch but not positive. Possibly related the car has on few occations shut down completely while driving. Appears to lose power but the dash lights all come on. Any hints or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

im haveing the exact problem also the key gets stuck and the transmission starts acting up and when the key comes out the transmission is fine, u might have a code that comes up saying its the shift selenoid ignore it try replacing the ignition switch thats where im going beleive it or not just the ignition switch will causes problems with your car that are unrelated to the problem. If the key is getting stuck its the Brake Shift Interlock Solenoid its just under the ignition switch you have a short in it you can unplug it or replace it what its doing is over heating the solenoid and at times it can drain your battry.and for the trans acting up you could have a short to one of your solenoids or it could be the trans filter.

All acc power stays on and starter wont stop turning over when battery is connected in my 1997 chevy blazer

I would take a look at the wires down at the starter. He may have the large positive wire shorting to the smaller, trigger, wire. This could potentially cause a back-feed through the whole system.

Check the fuses.

Some transmissions will not allow you to move the selector stick, unless the brake is depressed. If the brake globes, or fuses have blown, you can not move the transmission of out park.

My 97 Chevy blazer has a Immobilizer ; doesn't start.

I agree with gasitjr.
I own a 98 blazer. When you try to turn over the engine. Does the engine rotate? If yes,it's not the starter or the battery. When you turn the key into the ON position before it starts can you hear an electric motor noise winding up? If yes , the fuel pump maybe OK but if the pump pressure is bad...blazer wont start. Pump runs about 300 plus labor. I've done it..It sucks
