Question about 1988 Jeep Comanche

1 Answer

Looking for diagram for vacuum hoses/1988 jeep comanche pick-up 6 cy. They were disconnected & now we are unable to re-hook them back up in the proper way they are supposed to be. The engine is making a whistling sound & there are places that the hose is supposed to go but we don't have any hose left over for them. The engine run perfect prior to having the lines disconnected.

Need to see diagram for 88 jeep Cherokee Laredo straight 6 for vacuum line for transmission

in the USA? 4.0L engine.
TRANSMISSION VAC>.
So that be automatic.
and some have a vacuum modulator.
some dont.
if it does, its just a vacuum line from the modulator to the plenum.
the modulator uses hard vacuum to sense engine load, to delay shifting/

some EPA hood stickers fail to show this hose.
because its a trans hose and not related to smog.
only this is covered in the FSM.
surely you can find the empty nipple in the plenum
but is this and engine swap, and missing this?

I owned 3 1988 2 JX and 1 Comanche.

id find a vaccum line under full vacuum under idle. 20inches is typcal. (cant find real nipple?)
then add TEE fitting to this line and to trans.
end story.

there are 2 kinds of vacuum./
vsv solenoid switched, (like that on EGR)
direct plenum vacuum (bingo!)
and ported vacuum, weak or no vacuum at all at idle.

easy huh?, just use the hard vacuum line,, or make one.

1988 jeep comanche idles high. have checked vacuum hoses. what could be causing this?

You might try adjusting the idle at the throttle body, check the mass airflow sensor, and check for leaks around the plenium.- or what some people still refer to as the intake. And, check the condition of the fuel rail and injectors.

check the solenoid on the starter it powers the ign for starting then switches to run when you let off key, either the solenoid is bad or a wire to the solenoid has come unhooked and sometime they have an in line fuse which can blow.

More than likely if its a fuel injected (multi port on the manifold) than it is the IDle speed sensor on the right side of the throtle body.

Need diagram of vacuum system for 1988 jeep comanche pick-up 6 cy

Haynes manual has a diagram. Main important hookups are to power brake booster, fuel pressure regulator and map sensor. also need a connection to a/c controls inside drivers compartment and evap system canister. will also need connection to egr valve solenoid if you have one. as well as pcv on valve cover (or ccv which replaces pcv on some)
