Question about 2000 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

I can not find the neutral safety switch on a 2000 buick park ave

Even the Buick Parts guy has not found it yet. It should be external, my book said 2001 and later are internal. My problem is I turn the key, dash lights and radio go out (normal), but starter wont run. No sercice light, no codes in ECM, tried 2 different batteries, all fuses OK, swapped relays in fuse box around, did this a week ago, turned key 3 times and then started. I can turn ignition on, lay under car, in park, and jump power from starter solenoid batt. post to small start post, engine starts and runs for 1 to 3 seconds, then like you shut key off, dies. Can do this several times, same result. Is gas in fuel rail on top 3.8L engine. Thanks Muck, Roger Jones

Transmission range sensor , through electrical signals to the PCM ,it knows what gear the vehicle is in . Some all so call it a Park neutral switch , but it does more then that . The park neutral part of it won't allow the vehicle to start unless it is in park or neutral .

I have a 1992 buick roadmaster limited edition and my reverse lights stay on all the time how do i fix this problem

Hi...sounds like your Neutral Safety Switch needs to be adjusted. Loosen screws enough to slide switch one way or the other until your backup lights go out when the vehicle is in park, then re-tighten screws. Check to make sure backup lights come on only in Reverse. I have a 1995 Buick Park Ave Ultra. The car has power but will not turn over. I was told by one shop that it might be the V.A.T.S. system and by another that it is the IGNITION CONTROL MODULE.

Make sure the battery cables are clean and tight on the battery. Check to see if the wires to the starter are tight. Try starting it in neutral to make sure the safety switch is being make. Also hold it up into park and try.

Pass key is the security system which disables the car if it is stolen. You need the remote or a key with a chip to start the car. go to a dealer, prove ownership with registration and they will be able to help you out

Any chance your vehicles have a security/alarm system. Disconnecting battery on some, will arm it sometimes & not allow it to run. Using key to unlock door, on driver & passenger side have been known to work on some vehicles, but if not, a call to dealer should help.
