I have the same problem three times. The lighter socket does not work and the radio does not work. I had a garage change a fuse before, but it did it again. You just cannot charge a phone in the cigarette lighter socket and use the radio. I charge the phone now with the battery socket while driving. I would like to change it myself, but do not know where the fuse is or the part number.

I also had this problem. I took my car to the dealer and I had to buy a new radio. Now it goes on and off, making the clock always go down and needs to be reset. My 5 disk CD player has not worked since the first time the radio stopped working. My service warranty had just expired.

There is a "map" on the underside (inside) of the lid to the fuse box on the driver's side of the engine compartment- the ligther and the radio are on the same fuse.

you likely have some "trash" in the bottom of the lighter socket that is causing/has caused the ciruit to be connected, thus causing the fuse to blow.
Quick fix- replace the fuse, cover the socket and don't use it.
Better fix- clean the socket out, replace the fuse, and monitor for further problems.

Could this be a recall problem? To many people are having the same problems.

Radio stop working

Check for a blown fuse in the power circuit to the radio.
If your radio is an aftermarket one, it may have been improperly installed and powered from the cigarette lighter circuit. If so, check the fuse for the cigarette lighter circuit.

It may be that a "fusible link" was blown open when you attached a defective cell phone charger (what you call a "memory charger?) If so, you will have to get professional help in finding the location of the fusible link, often buried within the car's wiring harness.

Why did my radio and my cig. lighter stopped working?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard "All fuses are OK" or "I already checked the fuse" or "I know it's not the fuse"....I'd be a rich man!

When cigarette lighters quit working, 99% of the time the fuse is blown because someting got plugged into it like a defective phone charger. The other 1% of the time, it is because the lighter element is burned out or somebody essed with the wires to the cigarette lighter trying to install some kind of aftermarket equipment.

Humor me and check Fuse #9 (20 Amp) in the passenger side fuse and relay box.

Is the cigarette lighter also the plug for cell phone charger?

The cigarette lighter plug should also work for the phone charger as long as the phone charger uses the cigarette lighter style plug(long with two metal contacts on the sides and a button contact on the tip). Most standard car chargers will fit both cigarette and auxillary style plugs.

Radio does not turn on. the clock shows, the light

The memory wire of the radio,(the power for the clock and channel settings) is usually connected to the same circuit as the cigarette lighter. (there is a seperate fuse for radio) Check your cigarette lighter socket for damage or dirt, etc. could be causing the memory fuse to blow. Also check your cig lighter accesories (like cell phone chargers, etc.)

P.S. The backlight is also a seperate circuit (connected to interior light/parking light circuit)

Radio and cigarette lighter

You can pull the fuses one at a time and look at them. You will know the bad fuse when you see it.

Cigarette lighter sockets no power

Cell phone chargers commonly blow the fuses at the power points. It seems that our charger adaptors do not match the socket properly, and the positive part of the charger hits the negative of the socket, resulting in a blown fuse. If you have a charger, and it works, leave it in the socket. Don't take it with you. Repeated insertions of the adaptor to the socket magnifies this issue.
