Question about 1994 Ford F350 Crew Cab

1 Answer

4R100 sometimes won't move in reverse

The engine bogs down when shifting to reverse. A neighbor had same problem and was told to replace fluid with synthetic, it worked for him. Another site said it may be a plugged cooler. The local ford dealer said that they'd recommend replacing the trans for $3200.

My T45 transmission is stuck in first gear and bogs down when I shift it to reverse

It appears this is a 5 speed manual transmission. There may be shift linkage problems between the shift lever and transmission. also bushings. I strongly recommend a repair manual specificly for this transmission. possibly filespeep.com or manualslib.com

I have 1992 ford crown victoria that doesn't shift into reverse most especially when it's warm. i've had fluid changed. fluid is reddish now. is there an adjustment? sometimes seems like i can mess with...

Fluid color don't matter. Your cable or shifting linkage may have slipped or is slipping. #1 Hold brake pedal down and move shift lever very slow around the reverse indicator. When reverse activates note were indicator is located. #2 Test the other gear indicators at the proper speeds(MPH). No problems with #2-linkage problem. Problem with both-go get a six pack. Good Luck.

My shift knob won't move

WITH INFO YOU ARE PROVIDING CLUTCH MIGHT NOT BE COMPLETELY DISENGUAGING CAUSING A STIFF OR DIFFICULT SHIFT. CHECK BY PUTTING VEHICLE ON FLAT GROUND ENGINE OFF. GET INTO 1ST GEAR. THEN PUSH IN CLUTCH AND START CAR WITH BRAKE OFF IF CAR STARTS ROLLING THEN CLUTCVH IS STILL TRYING TO GRAB. THEN ADJUST THE CLUTCH PER VEHICLE SPECS.

I recently had a used automatic transmission installed on a 2006 Nissan Sentra (1.8L) and it cost me $1,400. The problem I am having now is when I shift from "Park" to "Reverse" the car...

is the fluid level full and if this problem wasn`t there before the tranny was changed but was there after then the problem is the transmission.i have not come across a motor causing a no shift to drive or reverse ever.as long as the motor is running properly it won`t cause this.when you move the shifter from either to park then back your moving the internal shift components and shift valves by allowing fluid to move in the proper path to allow shifting into reverse and drive.there may be a stuck or worn valve in the valve body.

Whenever I put the car in "reverse," the engine quits. Why is this happening?

Try these things out:
1. Your not holding the brake all the way down when shifting into reverse,
because when you DON'T, the engine idles a little high, and that can be making it "bog" and die.
2.Your idle speed is too low.
3.Your transmission is causing it to cut the engine out, because of the load, in that case... you might need either more or less transmission fluid.
4.If its a stick-shift, you need to ease off the clutch VERY gently, otherwise it stalls.
and NOT hit the gas, otherwise you'll **** backward and hit something.

If the car is parked facing down a hill and you must shift into reverse, it will not stay in reverse and sometimes won't go into reverse at all. What kind of tranny fluid does ford recommend?

Does the shifter move or are you holding the car by the parking pawl in the trans. You should be using the parking brake on a hill. Is the trans low on fluid, because it is leaking or you just do no know? Mercon V on the fluid.

I have the check engine light on 2day and show is the code p1709 pnp sw out of range how do i fix this ford f150 v6 1999 thanks

To Adjust Sensor:

  1. turn ignition switch to On, put shift lever in reverse and verify that the back up lights come on.
  2. If they do, but the engine can’t be started in Park or Neutral, or it can be started in any other gear besides Park or Neutral, the sensor is probably defective.
  3. If the lights do not come on, disconnect the shift cable from the manual lever, loosen the bolts on the sensor and move sensor slightly until the back-up lights come on, tighten bolts 62-89 in lbs for the 4R70W, 71-88 in lbs for the E4OD and 4R100.
  4. If you can’t get the back up lights to come on by moving the sensor, and the lights are good then the sensor is probably bad
If the sensor is bad replace and reset check engine light. Hope this helps, let me know
