Headlight systems use a fuse for the headlamp switch, but they use relays for the headlamp bulbs themselves. Most often there is one for each bulb and it is in a relay box under the hood.
Check there first. Your owner manual should tell you where your fuse panels and relay boxes are and have a chart to identify whcih relays control the headlamps.
Here's a couple of tests to help narrow down your problem.

  • Do your high beams work? This will tell you that the grounds and some of the wiring is ok if the high beams work.
  • Does your flash to pass work? That will also tell you if the high beam bulbs are ok.
  • Do your parking lamps work, front and back? This will give more confidence the switch is good, if they work.
  • Do your front parking lamps work when the headlights are on? More confidence in the switch being good.
Some vehciles use a Lighting Control Module that controls a lot of the lighting functions. If that is bad, it is very expensive, like $400. You an call your dealer and ask the service department what is the most common failure of the headlamps and if you have a lighting control module.

Start there and let us know your findins so we can further advise you. I' m sorry I don't have shop manuals for Dodge trucks so I can't provide a wiring diagram. Good luck.

Start checking the fuse and the wirings, if you do not find anything in there, then check wirings and light switch.

Dodge ram 1500- when car is in park, the "park lights" dont work.

The parking lights would not normally come on unless you turn them on with the headlight switch. The daytime running lights would come on in drive and go off in park.
If you can't turn the parking lights on with the headlight switch, you would check the fuse, the relay if equipped, and the headlight switch.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500. I have rear break lights, reverse lights, and turn signals, but when I turn my headlights on there are no running lights - any ideas?

Check the hazard light switch. See if the switch works to flash the parking lights. Also there is a wealth of information here . Can't go wrong having it for instances like these.

does the instrument panel lights come on when you turn on the park lights only (no headlights)? If not it could be the switch itself.
