The blower resistor is in the very bottom of air duct just on top of the rug facing upward.on the passenger
side, remove floor air duct for better vision.

Remove cover under dash on passenger side & look for plug in duct work with wires going in & out of it. usually held in by one or 2 screws. Remove screw(s) and resistor should pull out.

How do you know if your blower resistor is bad?

Unlikely a blower motor resistor problem. If the resistor is faulty. the fan speeds will not work/fail on the lower speeds. High speed will normally always work. If the fan is non operational suspect a fan motor issue.Bad fan motor/switch/wiring to it

Fan control switch only works on high

If you blower fan will only work on high know that most blower motors are power by a basic electrical circuit that utilizes a multi resistor or a solid-state resistor to control different fan speed modes (low, medium low, medium and high). If the resistor malfunctions it may lose one or more of the lower fan speed settings. First check the fuse and change if needed. If that doesn't fix things change the resister.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blower fan not working

The resistor bank is bad for slow speeds, the switch is bad for high speed. In your test, you have voltage, but the switch wont carry the amps, to run high speed. Open circuits will not blow fuses. Replace both switch and resistor bank for all speeds. Make sure to clean leaves and trash from fan housing and see if fan spins freely.

Blower fan low speeds dont work just runs on high....is it the resister...check the relay seems ok

Hi Dean, I don't really know what you mean by the register, but I believe your problem is to do with the resistor which is built into the fan housing. It consists of three wire wound resistors and is fitted into the fan housing to take the benefit of the fan to cool the resistor pack. The climate fan at full speed runs directly from the battery voltage. The lower speeds run through the relevant resistors (which are of different values) and thereby run the fan at decreasing speeds. Remove the covers from the both sides of the fan housing and on one side you will see a small panel held in position be one or two screws. The panel will have cables plugged into it, which are those for the fan. To confirm you have the correct panel, turn on the ignition and the fan at full speed and disconnect the plug from the socket. the fan will stop and bingo! you have it! Remove the unit and either repair the unit or better still go to a breakers yard and buy a replacement from there before they wreck it! Fit it in, connect the plug, put back the paneling and enjoy. Regards John

Heater/acblower fan doesn't work on high. Other fan speeds work ok. what is the problem? It's a 2003 chevy astro van

Hi, check fuse 12 first. If it is good, you will need to replace the blower resistor. The high speed relay is built into the resistor. The resistor is next to the blower motor and looks like the picture below. There is a connector in the resistor and the 2-wire connector coming out of the resistor attaches to the blower. The blower is usually under the dash above the passenger's feet. You may have to remove a kick panel to see the motor and resistor. Please let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Cool fan low doesn't work. Doesn't appear to be

It needs to have the blower motor resistor card replaced.
It still works on high speed because on the high setting the voltage does not go through the resistor.
The resistor is mounted beside the blower motor and is easy to replace.
There you are, thank you for using FixYa.

the switch is on the dash with the other a/c controls. does the fan work at all? high speed OK? but the lower speeds dont work? if any speeds other than high dont work, replace the blower resistor.

1998 GMC Sierra pickup truck cabin fan problem

Your blower moter is under your glovebox and very easy to replace.I dont think thats your ploblem.I would pull off the dash.It will snap right off without breaking anything. Then pull out the part that holds the selector switch for the fan speed. Then you unplug that switch.Clean the copper contacts.Plug it back in.If everything works again like it should and did in my truck then it is either that switch that is bad or the wiring harness.I would replace that switch.
