Did the transmission you put in have the the pick up on the output shaft. Pull out the vss and see if the pick-up is on the shaft or a speedo gear is on the shaft. If it has a gear, you will have to change it to a pick up wheel. The older 700 transmissions used gears.

1988 Chevy pickup odometer doesn't work

they are spring loaded and mechanical. if a spring wears out or breaks it won't work. you can replace it with another one but the actual miles won't be there or you could go with a digital set.

Will a 1988 chevy scottsdale transmission enterchange with earlier model transmissions like 1983 or 1984 with 350 or 305 engines

Three different transmissions could be in either the 88 or the 83 or84. The 4 speed auto 700r4, the 9 inch tail t-350, or the 9 inch tail t-375. as long as it is the same type transmission, they will interchange. The 4 speed 700r4 has some internal internal differences between the years, but will still work. The 350 or 375 trannys are identical from that year range.

I took my 700r4 transmission out of my 88 chevy caprice because i had performance done to engine. is it a smart idea to hook a 400 transmission up to it

I would stick with the 700r4 and have it gone thru and maybe have a shift kit installed. You may have to change out some things putting in a 400.

I have a 1996 Gmc Sonoma with a 4.3l and 4l60e Tranny. My tranny went and a buddy of mine said that a 700r4 will work and is actually recomended. Will the 700r4 out of his 1988 Chevy 1500 work in my 1996...

It will not work without major modification. Your 96 Sonoma is completely electronicly controlled. The 88 is not. The computer uses information from the electronic transmission to help control the engine and therefore removing it will cause other problems.

"93 c1500tranny/engine swap l460e to 700r4/V6toV8- No Speedo/odom

Slide under the vehicle and see if the cable to the speedo gear was re-installed. It may just be hanging there. If it is not a cable make sure you plugged in the connector to the speed sensor.
