1993 Buick LeSabre transmission problem

The transmission shifts strong into 1st gear and reverse but will not shift into second. Could this be due to a defective vacuum modulator? If so, is there a way to check the modulator or is the problem more likely to be in the transmission itself. How about a vacuum leak in the line from the intake manifold?

Ideas?

No, the modulator on a 4t60e only will adjust shift feel, not shift points. Does the trans not shift up or go it to neutral instead of 2nd? Does you speedo work? The pcm needs a speed input to shift the trans. You might have a bad VSS

Won't drive or shift in 3rd gear but will reverse first and second gear

If it won't shift to 3rd and stays in second, bad shift solenoid/s. If it shifts and the transmission drops out(high RPM's), the bad clutches in the transmission. Rebuild. Solenoids around $600 to replace. Transmission rebuild around $2200.

****** takes off in 2nd and then shifts properly.

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Transmission will not shift into drive or 3rd gear

The transmission in this car is shifted by electric solenoids and they are controlled by a computer, so the very 1st thing that must be done here to start the diagnostic check of the cause is to have the computer scanned for fault codes related to the transmission, you could just have a defective shift solenoid. Aamco Transmission shops will scan the system computer for free and give you a free preliminary diagnosis of what might be needed to repair your shifting problems.

Had no problems with transmission ,came to a stop put in reverse would not go put back in drive and will only go in low gear

I take it the shifter will work at all selections made. The problem pertains to the automatic shifting inside the hydralic pump only which a transmission is. if its stuck in low gear the solenoid for 2nd & 3rd gear is bad. That will leave you in 1st gear only all the time until the bad solenoid is replaced

1987 buick wont shift

Have the transmission serviced (should be done every 60,000 miles), a fluiid and filter change, there is a good chance this will cure the problem.

I have a 1993 buick lesabre with 31000 miles. it has sat for a year, tranny slips in first gear only. i manualy put in first gear and gently give gas it will start moving when i hit 10 mph i shift to...

Might be a good idea to have fluid & filter changed, due to possibility of moisture build up etc. from sitting. Certainly the most inexpensive, and reasonable solution. Have all connectors removed & sprayed with contact cleaner too.
