Re: engine light on and car jerks when starting up and...
Their is a brain module that controls the fuel injection unit on this car ,before going out and spending tons of money take it to the dodge dealer in your area and let them run a diagnostic that they can plug into directly under the steering wheel , they can have an answer for you in minutes and if you don,t want to pay the high prices of the dealer then let the service tech show you which part is malfunctioning so you can identify it and see if it,s something you might be able to easily replace yourself ,always get a price from the service writer so you can shop around at local auto parts stores and possibly get the part for half of what the dealer costs, good luck ,sincerely Glenn

The engine has developed a misfire, most likely. Did the check engine light come on or start flashing? If so, find out what codes has set to determine which cylinder is misfiring and then proceed with the repair.
HAVE SOMEONE WITH A FLASH LIGHT LOOK UNDER THE HOOD WHILE SOMEONE ELSE INSIDE THE CAR HAS 1 FOOT ON BRAKE AND 1 FOOT ON GAS KEEP GOOSING THE GAS WHILE IN DRIVE THEN SWTCH TO REVERSE GEAR AND SEE IF MOTOR MOVRES ALOT IF SO BAD MOTOR MOUNTS
Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.
Could be fuel or electrical related. Since you may not know the history, this may take a while.
Any amount of smoke from exhaust? White, Blue, Black?
Start with most obvious and inexpensive:
1. Fuel filer clogged (replace fuel filter).
2. Could be the ECM (Electronic Control Module). It controls the ignition spark timing.
A few other things... consider other expert solutions...
You need to have the computer tested for control system trouble codes by the dealer, it is very doubtful the computer itself is the problem, this is true less than 2% of the time, it not something u guess on as it costs around $300.
It sounds like something is loose...That may be causing your vibrating problems with the engine. You need to life the hood and grab anything that should be bolted down grab it and gently but firmly pull on it. If it moves then you will see it right then and there. Or it can be on the inside of the motor also. The jerking can be from bad fuel....
