Question about 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1 Answer

I just bought the car. The check engine light started blinking. It was taken into a shop but the last owner didnt want to pay to fix it so he sold it to me. The shop told him it could be the fuel injectors. I filled up the gas tank after we installed used fuel injectors and i went about 30 or 40 miles and i was on empty again. The tail pipes were spitting out black smoke and it smelled like gas really bad. The car was missfiring really bad too. So now I had someone else look at it. I had the lower intake manifold redone, the sparkplugs were covered in gas and oil. I also had tune up and oil change. I replaced one set of coils. But now after all that, the light is still blinking and it doesnt smell like gas anymore. We hooked it up to the machine and it told us it was still missfiring. What else could be the cause of the missfire. Please help, i just got the car and i have put a lot of money into it, and want to get it running.

What could an air intake sensor have to do with misfire? I dont know much about cars, and would appreciate your help.

Pick the code that says TCM and fix that one first. IT is a pity that you did not have the codes read before you replaced the engine as you have no base data to compare the results with. Work with the codes until you have all the problems sorted out but I have a feeling that in all the codes you will find a common unit/ sensor that will be the root cause of the problems.

I just bought a 1988 Reatta. It has 176k on it. It has an electrical problem detection light on every time I start the engine. The person that sold it to me did not seem too concerned and showed me to...

The Reatta was an early car to have lots of electronics.
You might find it interesting to buy a factory service manual for 1988
There are usually some on ebay. There is a diagnostic section in the manual and all the diagnostics are displayed on the CRT screen. Using the manual you can walk thru the engine, body, brake, climate, etc sections and check almost everything on the car. Very handy to do before taking it in for anything, you will know more about the problem than they do.

My car was rejected for inspection bc my CHECK ENGINE LIGHT doesn't light!! i can't believe they picked up on this.....when i turn the key one click right before i start my engine, all the indicators...

My guess is bulb or wire if you just bought the truck. The last owner may have failed inspection because the check engine light was on and cut the power wire or pulled the bulb hoping to fool the inspector.

Hi Team, Good Afternoon. I purchased a 2005 Toyota Corolla 1 month ago (Used Car). As soon as I got the car I got the check Engine light. I took the car to Toyota of Irving and they told me that it was...

Did you buy this from a dealer? if so, you should have taken it back ASAP I dont know why you didnt have the Toyota Dealer fix the car, now your in the middle of a mess, getting 2 shops involved, and the car still has a problem. When you bought the car, whoever you bought it from, knew there was a problem, cleared the code and it took a while for the check engine light to come back on. So now you will just have to pay someont to fix the car. The trans shop told you it needed a converter and solenoid, the problem is still there, so make it their problem. I think you need someone who knows toyota . theres no recall that I know of. Recalls are free, anyhow. . ecm is warranteed 8 years or 80k miles. Have the dealer check it out. Have them Check Bulletin TC008-04 and T-SB-0378-08

Check engine light on always, then after driving a distance on freeway starts blinking. All fluids are fine. Even bought a new gas cap because other didnt seem to seal properly.

On some models when the check engine light is on then starts flashing you could be causing damage to the catalitic converter. you take this car and have the codes checked. converters are not cheap. let me know codes and maybe I can help

REPORT THAT SHOP TO BBB. If they charged you and didnt fix it they stole your money. If a fix may not fix the car you should be told upfront.
Sounds like you will need a shop that has a scanner capable of transmission fault testing.
Most genisys and snap-on scanners have this capability.
