Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

1998 Chevy s10 4 cylinder running rough

I have a 1998 Chevy S-10 with the 2.2 motor I bought this truck thinking it just needed a tune up.. The check engine light was on i took it to auto zone had them check the codes what they pulled was
P0141 (O2 sensor)
P0301(cylinder misfire cylinder number one)
P0140 ( O2 sensor)
With that i did not want to play hit and miss with changing everything so i took it to pep boys had them run a diagnostics on it. They said my O2 sensor is bad the number 2 fuel injector was bad and the map sensor ports needed cleaned .With that i took the truck home on the way home i noticed the truck was smoking whit smoke..I got it home and ran a compression test it passed so i changed both O2 sensors changed the number 2 fuel injector cleaned the fuel rail changed plugs wires oil and all filters ..After done the truck still runs the same and smokes(white smoke) took back to auto zone ran codes again this time 7 codes
P0122 (throttle position sensor)
P0141 (O2 sensor)
P0113 (intake air temp)
P0107 (map sensor and mass air flow sensor)
P0200 (Fuel injector circuit condition)
P0302 (cylinder misfire number 2 cylinder)
P0140 (O2 sensor)
SO my question is any one have any ideals what would cause these problems and the bigger question is anyone have a ideals on what to do to fix it????

    well i checked for fuel leaks everything was good i did a pressure test it checked out...so with that i went ahead and pulled the head had it checked everything was good i went ahead and replaced the gaskets put it all back together by the book and yet still same problem.. i changed the coil packs and the IAC and the MAP sensor and I'm still having the same problem the oil looked good when i changed it and the water was clean but everyone keep saying it was the head gasket so i changed it and still got the same problem any new ideals?

    1999 chevy s-10 2.2 liter w/192,000 miles on it. Running and sounding rough like it's not firing on all 4 cylinders, yet white/gray smoke coming out with a strong fuel smell. Thought water got in the gas and changed the fuel filter, added new oil and it's till doing it. Could it be that a plug or plug wire finally just went or could it be something worse and very costly?

    oil in antifreeze? Crack head...spark plug all the same color...

One thing to check is the fuel pressure regulator.
If the diaphram is leaking it will cause gas to be pulled into the vacuum system causing lots of white smoke and extreme rough running.

    Otherwise...do you see any evidence of gasoline in any of the vacuum system lines? That's what happened to me - gas got through the pressure regulator and into the vacuum line. By the time I figured it out it had sucked gasoline into the power brake booster ( via the vacuum system), also gas got into the crankcase (oil dipstick showed over full, oil definately had gas in it).



    Do you see any evidence of gas getting into the vacuum system? how about taking the vacuum line off the regulator and try to determine.

1- check there is spark come from spark wires
2- check the fire timing by looking for every wire in the right place
3- check there is injector signl
4- check for any vacuom leak
5- try to clean the MAF by brake and parts cleaner
6- try to reset all the code and see what will come after that

Could be the computer my buddy's truck did that and he went to the junkyard and bought one and replaced and things were comepletly fine

Ok I will be a little more specific,1998 Chevy astro van runs rough. Was diagnosed as a tune up so now has all new ignition parts (cap,rotor,distributor,ignition coil,spark plugs) fuel system completely...


I don't know how you determined that you aren't getting fuel to those cylinders but if that is true, you now need to determine why. You have to determine if those injectors are receiving power supply and pulse. You also need to first verify fuel pressure. This engine will give you a world of problems if the fuel pressure drops below 55PSI.

My Chevy 2500, 2001 runs rough when it cold outside


It can be issue with low fuel pressure,the fuel pump is getting old both needs to be checked.Also get the IAC valve checked.

My 1998 chevy lumina won't start right away and


The cooling system shouldn't be losing much coolant.

If you're putting in coolant regularly
If you're seeing slick oil in the coolant
If you're hearing noise in the engine while driving

You may have a crack in your engine block and your engine isn't being lubricated properly anymore. This will cause noise and leaks, make a motor run really rough and cause rough starting.

I suggest you bring your vehicle in for a coolant system pressure test and a chassis leak check. This should be a free service from any auto shop that wants your money for repairs.

Spark plugs usually degrade your performance slowly and don't make noise while doing it unless in extreme cases.

Spontanious misfiring on a chevy s-10 pickup 2.2 motor. The truck starts and runs but misfires on different cylinders and at different times.

Proper tuning


use carb spary to clean out the throttle body right at the butterfly plate.you will see a lot of carbon buildup at the plate at idle.
the tbi should be very nice and clean there.
the carbon blocks air flow at this spot when the plate is at idle.

Check engine light is on, motor runs rough, sometimes stalls


Go to Advance or Auto Zone and have them run an obd scan on it and it will pin point why your light is on and could solve your problem. This is often done for free.

Sounds like a bad fuel injector. Shop would need to run a contribution test to confirm. I must say, good detective work, good luck.

Sounds like your computer is fried. Check prices at your local recycling yard or EBAY. Ive seen this happen on other makes and models as well, and its always been the computer...

Sounds like it needs spark plugs and wires, and a fuel system treatment.
