I have a 2002 Saturn SL. 1.9 Liter 4cyl. First off I would like to say that I only paid $4,000 for the car in 2006. had 89,000 miles on it when I got it. Regular maintenance was performed, oil changed every 3000 miles and general tune up things as needed. Ran like a top when I got it, One trip from Illinois to Eddyville KY. I actually got 42MPG!
Now with 105,000 miles, I am having a strange problem with the vehicle. Took to the shop and they cannot find the cause of the problem. While on a trip from Illinois to Nashville TN (about a 3 hour drive or so) The car out of nowhere started chugging while driving 65 MPH on the interstate. Take your foot off the gas put it back on the gas pedal and drives smooth again for a while (sometimes 15 or so miles) then started chugging again. Service Engine Soon light came on and was on for 2 days. I took it to the mechanic and (my luck) drove up to the shop and the service engine soon light went off on its own. Nothing was done! They said they cannot fix it if it's not broken. (I'm laughing) It has been doing this for about 6 months now. Some days it runs without problems. Other days it is horrible. It has gone from about 40 MPG HWY to about 30 or so.
I have to date replaced the following parts, spark plugs, and wires, changed oil, and filter, air filter (even though it didn't really need it) Both Coil Blocks to the tune of $78.00) in all fairness one of them was cracked! had all the vacuum hoses checked. Was advised to run Sea Foam cleaner through a tank of gas by mechanic, I did this and the service engine soon light came on!!! ( I wanted to smack the guy, but I was thankful in a way)
Took the car immediately to a parts store (won't mention the name) They hooked it up to a tester on the spot and gave a 00105 error (which was MAP and or MAF sensor error since my car does not have a MAF sensor (or so I was told) it had to be a MAP sensor, well I took it off the car, less than 5 minutes... 2 screws and had it tested, but guess what, It tested GOOD! so what now? I will keep you posted.
Any other suggestions or comments welcomed, cause I am out of answers. Thanks
SOURCE: Cannot locate single tank fuel
Hello
Ford doesn't sell ready to install fuel lines for a truck this age, I know this for sure, so you will not find them. I strongly suggest you try and locate a fuel line from a salavage yard, they made millons of these trucks and it should be fairly easy to locate a good fuel line.

well it does have a large egr valve with a plug on the top electrical connector. so electronic I guess (digital, ? I dunno)
Autozone just lists the part as Duralast / EGR Valve
and it has a gasket, and the darn thing is $150.00!!! wow!
OK sorry I haven't posted for a couple days, I did some more. I took off the egr valve and cleaned the **** out of it, due to I don't have $150.00 for a new one right now, I still don't know what you mean by digital?
I sprayed it down with Carb cleaner and wire brushed the **** out of it, the insides were DIRTY! bad! nasty! after the cleaning I put it back on with a new gasket, and took it for a drive. It is still chugging but not as bad as it was, (I take my foot off the gas for a second and roll back into the gas and all is fine) again. I drove the car for 50 miles and it only did it 3 times. Now I have something else to report. Cleaning the EGR Valve did in fact take care of the high idle problem! So Yay! Car starts and idles up when cold to about 1200 rpm.... as it warms up the idle slows to normal range of about 750 rpm and runs pretty smooth. I couldn't be happier about that.
That high idling...I've noticed it too, and its not just cold weather sensitive...I was wondering, what's a reasonable price for a shop to replace sparkplugs and clean the EGR valve as you described? (I have no mechanic skills whatsoever past checking air in the tires and replacing wiper blades/air filter.)
duz the car have a digital egr valve
