The Check engine Light Comes On After Installing A Throttle body spacer and A K+n Filter, (Which We Had On Our ) '04 Suburban 5,3 Liter 295 Hp Vortec. the codes Are ''0171, 0174''. We Had It Installed By A Real Inspection Mech. I Saw Them 1st disconnecteed the neg battery term, and then Disconnect the Air Sensors. Now It Didn't Come right on Right Away, But A Few Hors Later, Took It Back, And Those Were The Codes, And He erased Them? And It The Chek Engine Light Came Back On??? Thanks For Any Advice. I Also Did Buy a Superchips Computer, But Haven't Used It At All, To Scared To Do it BY Myself, And The Mechanic That Instaklled the Parts Won't Use The Superchips Either, But That Might B Needed ?? To Adjust These Codes????BUt I Don't Know And Aren't Asamed To Admit It... Thank To Whoever Helps Us Out !!! James Woodf

    Thank You "

keeperoffire" I Appreciate That, I Put A New Mass Air-Flow Sensor On, And The Check Engine Light Still Came on as Too Rich.... And I Had The Comp Re-set Again, Now I Did Fail To Mention That I also Have a Remote Start... Which Since this Installation, Has been Giving Us problems as well. Thanks Again For Your And Any Further Suggestions !!! Take It Easy !!! James

You'll Never Beleive That It Was The KenWood Deck I Have Installed Instead Of Factory, This deck Didn't Let the On-Star Loop To Complete, Because Of The Deck. No One Wasn't prepared For Hearing That 's All That Was Needed To Correct The Problem, The Installer Had To Unplug A Few Fuses, Then The Computer Was Programmable To Accept the New Bolt -On Performance Parts.... So At Least There's The Legitimate Fix To he Problem In Case Anyone Else Runs Into It. Thanks Again For Your Time,

    James

Well Thank You..... Yeah That Is Def A Messed Up Backwards Way Of Finding Out A Diagnosis... But Yeah Much Releived !!! , It Wasn't Able To read The Codes Properly B-Cause The Aftermarket Deck Interrupted The Loop From On-Star.... And After The Installer Got On THe Phone W"Superchips." , They Told Him To Pull The Radio In-line Fuse From Batt, Then Pull A Few More Fusses From The Fuse Box Under The Hood Behind Battery, And Then All The Suddon, Successs !!!! Yeay....Well Now You Have A New Way To Suggest A Fix In Case Anyone Else Goes Thru This Stuf..... Thanks Again, James W.

Both a po171 and a po174 are lean codes. Not to say that this is for sure your problem but i have seen several times with the K&N systems where to much oil has been put on the filter and it contaminates the mass air flow sensor.something to try or check.

No gas coming out of the carb

on cool motor, remove fuel line to throttle body, turn switch to accessory position fuel should flow freely. no flow check filter located on frame rail. or defective fuel pump. pressure should be(if checked with good guage)45-55 psi. if all checks out throttle body jet clogged with gunk or you have broken-damaged throttle body wires. all of this i have found on 2.8 liter engines.-------jawstech goodluck hope this helps.

Where is the eletric idle on 2001 suburban

Hello: The idle is controlled by the electronic throttle actuator. If the check engine light is NOT on the you may have carbon build up in the throttle body. If it idles to slow and/or stalls when coming to a stop the you have carbon build up. Get a can of carburetor cleaner, remove tube going to the throttle body, get a soft cotton rag, spray carburetor cleaner on it, open the throttle plate by hand and clean the inside of the throttle body and the throttle plate. When done put back together, turn key on for10 seconds and off for 10. seconds. That should correct the problem if it idles to slow. Do not spray cleaner straight into the throttle body, you could blow up the engine.

Yes ihav e 2003 envoy with 4.2 liter an it has started idiling rough

There are a few things that you can do, do get it idling correctly, and it's fairly inexpensive.

1. Clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner, with the battery disconnected. Needs to be shiny. When finished, drive around for 20 minutes or so with all accessories turned off, so the computer can relearn the newly cleaned TB. About $7 for the cleaner

2. Replace your spark plugs with A/C Delco 41-103, will idle better with this plug. Around $7 ea
3. Replace your upstream 02 sensor, the one right after the exhaust comes out of the engine, easy to replace. Between $67 and $80, try to stay away from Bosch.
4. Replace your fuel filter around $15 or less.
5. Check your vaccum lines for leaks.

I have a 2005 dodge durango limited 5.7 liter engine. My engine light an my etc light came on. The power reduced and I pulled over. Now my engine light remains on but the etc light has not appeared again.

Well, the ETC light often comes on as a result of a sticky throttle plate, but doesn't trip the Check Engine. First, I'd clean the throttle body plate off. You do this by removing the big air box on top of the engine and just cleaning all round the inside of the throttle body with a rag and some carb cleaner.

Next, you should go to an auto parts store that will let you use an ODBII scanner to read the engine code and post the codes here. However, if your throttle body is really dirty, you can try and just reset the computer yourself and see if the light comes back. To reset the computer, unhook the positive and negative battery cables. Hold the two disconnected ends together, metal to metal, for 60 seconds. Some times this takes longer, but 60 seconds usually does it. This should reset the check engine light.

Oh, and depending on what tripped the check engine light, Chrysler has a funny way of just leaving the light on for a set period of time. If the problem is resolved the light will stay on until you drive a certain distance, above a certain speed. Unfortunately, this varies and I just don't know what your SUV needs.

Having an idle problem...89 model suburban 5.7 liter with a throttle body...every sensor and switch has been replaced...the throttle body has been rebuilt and the fuel filter has been replaced...when it is...

Check your timing. With 5.7's from 1989 I have encountered slipping harmonic balancers, so make certain tdc is actually where your "mark" is, otherwise you'll get an incorrect setting and it'll run like ****. Depending on your mileage you may have a toasted timing chain.

1990 gmc truck 5.7 liter. won't start after throttle body spacer

PVC simply recycles the blow by gases. You have either blown a fuse, or your fuel pump is not delivering gas to the motor.
