Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

Powersteering goes out randomly.

I have a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, and the power steering goes out randomly. It's electronic power steering. I can turn the car off and then back on and the steering works fine. Then it will go out again a couple minutes later. Makes it difficult to drive, because I never know when it's going to go out.

Okay so this **** seems to happen to everyone. I mean the Cobalt, she's a badass, good car, but since this is "eletric" power steering that explains why I was unable to find where to put in the fluid. I looked for a while trying to find it. It doesn't even show up on the manuel. The only thing it says is, "take it to the dealer".

Best to have an ASE mechanic who is certified in Steering and Suspension perform replacement as often Air Bag Systems / Functions come into play.

Power Steering

Yes your absolutly right.
I have a 2006 Cobalt and my power steering completly failed. And this isn't a cheap fix. A quote of over $700 for a steering column replacement because these cars run electronic steering. Unless your under warrenty start searching salvage yards for working steering columns.

STEERING FLUID

the 2005 chevy cobalt uses electronic power steering therefore does not require any fluids unless you want to add some lubrication to the steering column at rub points if you have any.
