Question about 2004 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

Envoy 2002 not always start, dies while idling and when u stop

As I mentioned in my reply to an ignition problem did not start everything went dead, except the battery, which was fully charged. I slammed my hood down and for no explainable reason we were able to start the car. Yntil we stopped and while idling evrything went dead again. I repeated the slamming of the hood and voila it started again. Enough for me to the dealer we went. We return 1 1/2 hour later and were told that they found a problem with the throttle plate. They had to dismantle it and clean some build, which may have been part of the problem, secondly they discover that the ignition switch needed to be replaced, as it was not working properly. I said already another $200.00. They said it was a start and should have resolved the problem. I hope it has. I will keep u up to date.

HELLO, WISH I HAD U AROUND WHEN MINE WONT START,L.O.L U KNOW JUST BECAUSE THE BATTERY IS FULLY DOEST MEAN IT HAS ENOUGH CURRENT TO START YOUR CAR MULTIPLE TIMES! U SEE 12 VOLTS AND CRANKING POWER ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS! SEE YOUR ALTERNATOR IS USED TO KEPT THE BATTERY CHARGED SO IT CAN START YOUR CAR AFTER THE CAR STARTS THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS POWERED BY THE ALTERNATOR NOT THE BATTERY,THE ONLY TIMES THE BATTERY IS USED IS TO START THE CAR AND SUPPLY POWER TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IF THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF! HAVE A LOAD TEST DONE ON YOUR BATTERY TO MAKE SURE ITS OK AND AT THE SAME TIME HAVE THEM DO A ALTERNATOR TEST AND MAKE SURE ITS OK, THEIR ARE A COUPLE OF NATIONAL AUTO SUPPLY STORES THAT WILL DO THIS TEST FREE AND WILL INSTALL A BATTERY IF FOUND BAD, AN ALTERNATOR COULD BE VERY MUCH DIFFERENT!(HOPE ITS NOT THAT) ONE THING U COULD DO YOUR SELF IS REMOVE BOTH BATTERY CABLES AND CLEAN THEM WITH A WIRE BRUSH,THE POST AND THE CABLES AND RE INSTALL GOOD AND TIGHT SO THEY CANT BE TURNED BY HAND. SO I HOPE THIS HELPS, BATTERY'S SHOULD BE THROUGHEN OUT EVER THREE YEARS,GOOD LUCK TO U.

2002 gmc envoy stalls when turning and slowing down

I am going to assume the check engine light is not on.
I would check the throttle body to see if it needs to be cleaned, and check the idle air control valve to see if it is working. The computer controls idle speed by the amount of air coming into the throttle body.
The ac problem is probably something different such as low freon or a cooling fan problem.

2002 Envoy died, no power to anything. No click when trying to start it... just nothing. What the heck could it be? I'm thinking alternator. Before it died tonight, if I were to be pushing the

Sounds like your alternator went out or not making good connection at the battery terminals, preventing the battery from being charged. If the battery does not charge, you will use up the battery energy to maintain the vehicle running UNTIL you deplete the battery. the more accesories you have on, the faster it discharges till the point of killing your ignition on your engine. You definitely have a charging issue, more than likely, your alternator went out.

I have a 2002 Envoy. The blower motor sporatically will not start. When it does run the speed adjusts fine and everything works as expected. I think there may be a dead spot in the motor winding but...

when it does not work, rap on the motor, it that gets it going, repalce it. if not, gently turn the ignition key and see if that affects it, the ignition switch could have a bad contact.

Ignition key

I've found that the steering lock on some vehicles will interfere with the ignition lock and the steering wheel may have to be rocked to find the right position.
I think the purpose of this was to ensure that the steering lock is engaged before you can take the key out; don't ask me why - if the key is out and anyone tries to steal the car, the steering wheel will find the pin the first time the wheel is turned 90-180 degrees anyhow.

Starts, but put it in gear, it goes dead. will idle.

1. Had mechanic check timing again. Belt off a couple degrees. Should fix problem.
2. Don't know. this is my son-in-laws car.
3. No.
4. I think valves were bent due to timing belt breaking and son-in-law trying to start car when it went dead.
5. Will do this if timing belt reset don't work.
Thanks for your reply.
