92 Chevy Astro-leaking freeze plug behind motor mount

The freeze plug behind the motor mount on driver side is leaking steadily. Need to know best way to fix it. Have limited funds so will attempt to do it myself. (Have replaced the alternator, starter and water pump so far) This has been a very good vehicle with few problems to be so old. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. If all else fails, is there a temporary fix? Until I can save enough for a mechanic? Need the vehicle to get to work. Thank you for your time.

Thank you!! It took two bottles of the stop leak as it was leaking pretty badly but, success!! Will keep a sharp eye on water levels from now on and prepare for a permanent fix when necessary.

There are a couple of ways to fix the problem. first you can use pepper to plug the hole if it is a small leak. If it isn't, then use radiator stop leak. You can find this at a parts store

My 95 astro van is overheating and leaking water. Its doesn't seem to be leaking from any hose it looks like its coming from the motor mounts. What could it be?

Aha! The freeze-plugs in the side(s) of the engine are leaking. Hope it hasn't been frozen? That will often push the plugs out of the block,,,

Freeze Plug Leak on my 1996 GMC Jimmy

i would hardly call this repair simple or inexpensive. the part itself yes the labor probably not. i have made this repair myself to my 97 jimmy if you have 4 wheel drive the transfer case up front makes this repair next to impossible from the underside of the car plus the fact that it is behind the motor mount means the the mount must be removed. this involves raising or removing the motor. simple? on a car of this age you will probably find (as i did) the motor mounts are damaged might as well replace them too the parts are fairly inexpensive. also look into replacing all the plugs so you dont have to do this again in a few years. oh yea use the proper antifreeze mix in your radiator water is what rusts out the plugs

97 chevy astro van

if you have enough room sure yopu can replace it as it sits. fastest way is take the doghouse of this will give you more than enough room. you either can use a freeze plug tool or you can use a impact socket that fit's the freeze plug.( do that all the time) this should solve it for yah... please rate...thanks
