Question about 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer

3 Answers

I have a 1995 4X4 S10 blazer and the problem I am having is that when I turn on the front defogger there is a heavy smell of radiator fluid coming in though the defogger vent and the front windshield fogs up really bad. I looked and checked the front floor boards to see if its wet from possibly the heater core leaking and is not and even checked the radiator to see if its low and its not either so I am in a lost here what can it be, any help would be greatly apprecaited.

1997 Chevy Blazer... my heater puts out small amount of heat, and its a cool heat, not hot like it should be. Also when fan is running on the heat side, its not as full forced air as when I switch it to the cool side. Can't tell if its the blower, something is stopping the air from flowing all the way, but then again, what air is coming through, should be hotter than what it is.??

I agree this can be a real pain in the , well u know, let me ask , can u smell any thing out side of your truck or when u have the hood open?if not i hate to say this but it is in the dash compartment, and its so small it never enough that u need to add water or it even doesn't get any thing wet! these will drive u nuts but let me try to make so sence of it for u. what i found in a similar problem was the leak (if u smell it its leaking) was around the connection of the hose to the heater core another was in the core it self, see the leak can be so small it wont leak until the system becomes hot and under pressure as in normal operation as the temp goes up and pressure as well it will leak ever so lightly more as a steam just enough to taint the air and not get any thing wet because its so little and very hot and most of it if not all evaporates before it can,see this is also one reason they build the antifreeze with an oder, not to mention the inside fog (moister),its a pain but its around the only water carring parts under your dash.try to be patient and u will get it, u have to, good luck to u.

Look at the area where you park. Is there any fluid under the car that is not oily but rather is slick and has a sweet smell - yes, you wil have to stick your finger in it to see. If you find this type of fluid, you have a leak from somewhere in the engine compartment. Judge by the amount of fluid whether this is a major and potential calamity. (Lots of antifreeze could mean a bad hose or a bad water pump.)

Once you've checked for leaks, check the plastic reservoir that holds the radiator coolant overflow - is there anything in it? If you found alot of fluid on the ground, odds are that the reservoir will be low. If it is much below the fill line, add some water and coolant (50/50 mix) until it is back to the fill line.and check it for awhile to see if it needs more after you have driven for a bit (keep the coolant with you in the car just in case.) When the engine is cold, and as you are checking the reservoir, remove the radiator cap by pushing down on it a bit and turning it in the direction shown on the cap itself. Look into the radiator with a flashlight to see where the fluid level is. If it is more than 2 inches from the top, add a bit of coolant/water but not up to the top. Replace the cap firmly and add coolant/water to the reservoir cold level mark.
If that all looks fine, you may have a bad water pump, a plugged radiator, a week cooling fan or a bad thermostat.

Good luck.

1989 Chevy S10 Blazer 4.3L V6 Automatic: Massive coolant leak occurred after letting truck sit for about 30 minutes after running it for around 1 hour. Coolant steadily flowed from what appears to be on...

Check the bottom side of the water pump for wetness, as well as the lower radiator hose. The water pump if leaking, will run the coolant down the front of the motor, and can appear to be coming from the top of the oil pan. It is nearly impossible for the top of the oil pan to leak coolant.

Not cranking

If the engine is locked up try pulling spark plugs to see if radiator fluid is inside. If so the intake plenum would need replacing as well as an oil change.
