On all older cars you will get a lower compression reading on all cylinders. If one or two cylinders are low then it could be a head gasket or bad valves. If only one is low it could be bad valves or bad rings. It also depends on how low they are. A difference of only 5-10 lbs is sometimes normal. You want to find the ones that have really low compression. find the one or ones that are really low and that is the head that is bad. ( I would do both of them at the same time so you don't have to do the other side later. V-6 and V-8 only) 4 cylinders you only need to do the one.

There can be several causes for low compression.
Chck the obvious first. the spark plugs must be checked that they are all in good condition. not burnt, the gap must be good( for your engine).Check the wires and coil so that good spark is obtained. Blue spark , not weak yellow spark. After everything is good. Check the cylinders to see if they have compression. To test the cylinders do the procedures shown below.

If the cylinder shows little leakdown or holds good compression when a little oil is squirted into the cylinder (wet compression test), it would tell you that the engine needs new valve guide seals and/or guide work. Most late model import engines have positive valve guide seals. Often, the guides are fine, but the seals are worn or cracked. The seals can be replaced on some engines without too much effort and without having to remove the head.

compression test will help you determine if the oil is getting past the valve guides or the rings. finally if the rings on one or more of the pistons can caus compression leak. It must be located and fixed.

My 2003 sunfire wont start its getting fire and gas and it turns but wont start why

Please consider following matters:
1. Ignition. Blue color fire is the the best ignition power 2. Gas. Check your fuel filter and injections 3. Compression. Combustion chambers should have enough compression to start the engine. Does your car lost its compression? Is the car has blue smoke on exhaust muffler ? Do you need top up oil regularly? All these things show your car has problem with compression.

'99 Windstar. Overheated and threw belt off.

overheating can damaged cylinder head gasket resulting to low or no engine compression.coolant may enter inside the bore.check compression in all cylinders and traces of coolant on sparkplugs.compression of 100psi is still acceptable.

My 1999 Pontiac Sunfire now will not start. It will crank, but will not fire. I had the ignition control module checked, and it tested good. When cranking, it acts like the firing order is off, but all...

Yes fine cracks in the outside housing allows moisture to enter and disrupt electrical current with corrosion and oxidation of the metal components including the circuitry.

Interior and exterior fuse keeps blowing on my 1999 sunfire

if the fuse keeps blowing then there is an electrical short somewhere and this needs to be found and repaired, fuse keeps blowing so the wires don't over heat and cause a fire, do not put in a larger fuse than is required you can cause a fire
