At the same time, the transfer case became extremely difficult to engage out of neutral. Once, the t-case slips into high or low, the transmission will engage reverse, no forward gears engage though.

Definetly try oil and filter change on gearbox , they have internall filter that block slightly , if this doesnt work i would think one of your diff bearings may be on its way out .

I'm guessing that the gearbox speed sensor was damaged in the shunt, this can happen if the gearbox was in park when it happened - causes internal damage to quite a lot of components. The speed sensor tells the gearbox the speed of the input shaft and the transmission control computer then signals the gearbox to change gear accordingly. If this is damaged it could account for the symptoms. Suggest taking to a LR dealer for diagnosis, they should pick up any sensor faults with their plug in diagnosis tools. Whilst it will cost a bit, it will save you a lot of component changing and there are a lot of components to change on a Disco!

No need for a diagram, to drain the oil, there's a drain plug on the bottom of the transfer box, under the handbrake drum. To fill, the fill plug is about in line with the centre of the handbrake drum and to the left. I think both plugs are 1/2" square. Fill to overflow with Texaco Multi-Gear 75W/90R. Takes about 2L or so.

Is it a manual trans and when you say "could not move in any gear", does the engine stall when you try to move it? When it moves backward is that with the engine moving? If you answered yes to both questions then the trans is stuck in reverse. You may still be able to move the shifter but something has failed internally. If it has an automatic trans then you may have a simple linkage problem, or it may require a more in-depth inspection.
