Question about 1998 Chevrolet K1500

Dome light will not come on when door is open

Hi,

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and when the door is open the dome light doesn't come on as it should. Also, there is no dinging sound when you open the door that should indicate if you have left your headlights on or your key in the ignition. I went to Napa and the guy said it was the switch/commutateur interruptor that needed to be replaced. It was only $9 so I bought it thinking I could maybe figure it out or that maybe there were some instructions with it, but there weren't. I need help and don't know where to begin.

Check the door jamb switch. It probably has gone bad or fallin into the body. You should find this little black button in the left front door jamb.

the actuator for the dome light is actually located inside the lock mechanism. Have you checked to make sure the dome light override button is in the out position?

Dome lights wont work on a 1999 dodge ram 1500 van

check in the fuse panel for a blown fuse or a time delay relay to be blown out. if this checks out to be good, then you have a short in the wiring to dome light. also you may look inside the dome light socket for a blown light bulb or a short in the socket.

Could be a worn or defective door switch. That is the first thing I would check.
