You are better off getting the entire Cluster replaced, by any Lexus Dealer, and make sure they atleast give you a 12 month warranty on the part and the labor..Now it may cost a little more, than if you had someone else to do it, but its worth the peace of mind and money in the long run....
insturment clusters on these cars are known for going bad and blinking on and off. get the cluster fixed or get a used one. there is a company on ebay that will fix it for around $75.00, with a lifetime warrenty. just go to ebay and type in 93-94 lexus ls400 insturment cluster. There ad will come up and just follow the directions. Trust me this will fix the problem. It is also cheaper than buying another one that has no guarantee.
Have someone get one for you at a local junkyard. Now I know what you are thinking JUNKYARD !!
Many junkyards out there specialize in late model cars like yours and usually have great pieces like the one you need.
So call many junkyards using your local yellow pages and you'll fing one that specializes in late model used parts. Have someone with good mechanical knowledge remove the cluster...it can
Hello hayeizmyhome...Very low mileage for a 1990 model. However... this is usually around the mileage interval the dreaded instrument cluster, panel and dash light failures start...lights will flicker, then go out, gauges will start going up and down, lcd's will become hazey and hard to read....etc. The instruments are illuminated both day and night while the ignition is on. When the ignition is off, the panel goes dark and you can’t see the gauges at all. The lexus has an electronic circuit board behind the inst. cluster that has been the problem. Very expensive repair if done by dealer. *TIP* This circuit board can be repaired if you know a good electrical technician much cheaper. The recommended timing belt replacement interval on the LS is 120k...water pump should be replaced also, the timing belt runs the water pump. The LS has a non-interference engine, meaning if the belt breaks, no damage will be done to the engine... Hope this answers your questions..and your lexus runs for many more miles...with proper care and maintainnace, it will.
I like to know more about the symptom to prevent giving you a wrong solution. Please confirm if these are what you have. It usually starts OK when the car is cold. As it gets warmer, it flashes and eventually goes out. It happens more often when the weather is warm. The center column lighting (transmission indicators, stereo, temperature control, etc.) flashes and goes off along with instrument cluster.
Let me know if the description matches your LS400. If it does, I will need a day or two to gather my old notes.
