Brand new fuel pump, still isn't getting gas

I started my car one morning trying to get to work and it wouldn't start. I had a buddy come check it out and he said the fuel pump wasn't kicking on so it I probley should replace it. So we did. Now it still isn't starting. When you spray gas into the engine it will fire, but as soon as you stop the car stops. We have not only replaced the pumps but also checked all fuses and relays that we know of. They all seem to be good. I just don't know what it could be.

Did you end up finding a solution? My honda has a similar problem. Turns over and dies when it's hot. Replaced fuel pump and relay and a few other things but still no luck.

On most cars there is a shut off button so if the car gets hit it stops the fuel from coming out. it is usually located in the trunk. there will be a relay button somewhere on the left or right side of the panel. there should be a notice that reads emergency shut off button. push in on that button and see if that don't work. If that button is pushed in then take the fuel line off before the fuel filter and have someone turn the key on. It only takes a few seconds for the fuel to come out. If you have fuel coming out than put the fuel line back on and take off the fuel line after the filter and see if you have the same amount of fuel coming out. you might have a clogged fuel filter.I hope this helps. If not let me know i have some more test that you can do.

did you check the emergency shut off button? it is in the trunk on either side of the finder well. If it is not there then check the manual and find the button. if the button pops out you will not get any fire to the pump. ( this is a must check first item)

So you've checked the voltage at the fuel pump, and it is all good?

How about fuel filter?

what about clogged injectors?

Maybe whatever controls the injectors is either shot, or perhaps if there is a control module for the injectors then it is not getting power?

I got a 2000 Sunfire, I have simmular issues, it has sure had me scrathing my head. I found the fuel pump not running, checked relay and and the fuses. Then i bought a new fuel pump and installed it before checking power at pump , ASSuming that was it." Wrong". I started tracing out the harness and still no issues were found. Then I went to check power one last time and it started working. I am assuming ether the BCM or a harness connector to the BCM is the problem. When it fails it only shows 7.8 DC volts at the pump.

My buddy has a 1988 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L. He was driving it home and it started acting like it was running out of gas. Then it died and wouldn't restart. Now the fuel pump will not turn on,

I kind of agree it may be the ecu. but first, look for a green 20amp fusible link, turning into a red wire. Your wiring diagram shows this fusible link is the power source for the fuel pump relay. It is called Fuse Link G. Should be near the battery.

How do you check to see if your fuel pump is working

If it wasn't working the vehicle wouldn't start

If you have someone turn the key on & off,
you can listen for the fuel pump, by getting up close
to the tank or put a long tool to it and & your ear

You can also put a fuel pressure gauge on the motor
fuel rail schrader valve & check pressure

It can be tested for pressure, volumn, current, etc

1997 SC1 wouldn't start the other morning. It wasn't getting sparks to the plugs. Its battery is good and heard the fuel pump humming. thought it was the ignition coil they were bad replaced t

Ok what you are going to have to do is called a wiggle test have someone cranking while you wiggle all the wires at the module and everywhere till it starts or tries to start and when you notice a condition for the better examine that area very well for (ANY) type of wire problems. Please rate my solution and give testimonial this is how i earn my achievements Thanks in advance

My 2001 sunfire starts fine.but after i drive for about half hour it will stall and wnt start again for half hour.the oil light stays on when this happens.wassup with this?

This happened with my Sunfire. It was the radiator. The engine wasn't cooling, but the sensor wasn't showing that it was overheating. So the engine would start when it was cool, but as soon as it got hot, then if I stopped it wouldn't start again.

Make sure the fuel pump is kicking on it won't hurt to check the relay but I have never seen one bad yet it could be the plug on the plug on the end of the wires that plugs on the pump this run hot and it burns the ends alot several fuel pumps are replaced because of this make sure you have power at the pump if you can't hear it run it will only stay powered for a few seconds and then kick off. so you might need someone to turn it on while someone checks the power.

I started my 97 cavalier 2.2l this morning perfectly fine i drove it for 15min then shut if off went to start it again and it would not start. its trying but all its doing is cranking.

You might need to get a mechanic to check voltage and fuel pressure at the fuel pump these cars have lots of fuel pump issues, you might also want too make sure that there is no exposed wiring on the drivers side kick panel or you could short out your fuel pump....
