Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My Dodge Caravan had been idling low and the oil light/alarm will sound. The engine has been replaced, the fuel pump and many other sensors. The light still comes and the van is still idling very low. It almost smells like it is flooding however it stays running. We have been told that the fuel pressure regulator is in the fuel pump that we just replaced so it shouldn't be that. Someone else mentioned reseting the computer. How do we do that? Are there fuses we can pull to reset something? Thanks!

If you disconnect the positive battery terminal for at least 20 minutes it will "reset" the computer .. but be aware that you will lose all radio station presets, clock time, etc ...

Oil sensor light and alarm keep going off unless accelerating. New oil and filter. Any idea's ?

Low oil pressure. Replace the oil pressure sensor, if still happens, you may need to replace your oil pump. A blown gasket will also cause a drop in pressure

Engine oil light coming on. Oil level is not low. What could it be?

It sounds like you have a bad oil pressure sensor. Common problem on the caravan, especially after an oil change to a different viscosity oil (thinner/thicker).

Point of reference will be the largest pulley (crankshaft) and you will see the oil filter behind it. You will see your first sensor (crankshaft position sensor), following the wire routing you will then have your oil pressure sensor tucked in the corner under the exhaust manifold.

Replace that sensor and it will fix your problem.

Oil light came on when idling; oil changed; still happening occasionally. If I put it in park or neutral and rev it - the oil light goes out. Could it be the oil sending/pressure unit? Is there an easy way...

make sure are using a genuine dodge oil filter and correct grade of oil to check further you need to have the oil pressure checked using a master gauge a garage would do this for you if ok replace pressure switch if very low could be pump and bearing wear is the idle speed set too low i would check this

98 Dodge Caravan Oil Light/Alarm comes on Intermittently (High and Low RPM)? Any Ideas?

Remove, check and replace the Oil Pressure Sensor. It should be located adjacent (just left of) the oil filter.

What engine code(s) are you getiing? Try cycling key to, on ,off, on, off, on & leave on. (not start)
now count flashes from check engine light. will be flashes, pause ,flashes for 2 digit #'s. For example: 2 flashes , pause, 2 more is code 22.
3 flashes, pause, 3 more, is code 33. Write them down & get back to us. By the way when you get 55, thats end of message.

1997 DODGE RAM 1500 360 VERY LOW IDLE

I think you have ruled out the engine with all the parts you have replace. The transmission torque convertor is in lock up mode all the time. The engine is having to hard of a time to stay at the normal idle. The over drive clutches and soleniod are most likely damaged in the transmission.
I think you should take the vehicle to a trasnmission shop , The can check the torque convetror soleniods and pressure control soleniod.

The oil light coming on bothers me. I know you have the rebuilt engine in the vehicle but I think the oil pump in the engine is starting to go out or could be weak. The lower bearings connected to the crank shaft might be starting to leak. Have the oil pressure checked .

My friend that alarm is telling you u have low oil pressure, do you want to destroy the new engine?? Find out if the eng really has low oil pressure, it may just be a defective oil press sending unit causing the alarm, have the press checked with a mechanical guage or just replace the sender and see if that cures the issue, the alarm is part of the Body Control Module and can't be disconnected.
