Question about 1988 Chevrolet Astro Cargo

2 Answers

Transmission problem I have an 1988 Chevy Astro CL and the van drives forward just fine and doesn't slip or miss a gear. But there is no reverse. Also when the van is running it seems like the tranny is locked up for reverse and neutral. If the van is running and you shift into neutral the van will not move. But if you shut the van off and shift into neutral you can push the van backwards no problem.

Would the neutral safety switch cause the trans not to engage in reverse or neutral while running?

Astro van transmission

Is there any odor to the trans fluid? Does it have any burned smell on the dipstick?

My chevy astro van shakes when i slow own. and now

Sounds like your bands are locking up and sticking.
This is usually caused by worn bands or very dirty transmission fluid. the cheap fix is to change your transmission fluid and filter. If that doesn't fix the problem, your forward bands or servo may be worn out, which will require a rebuild.

My 1999 chevy astro van tranny is slipping

aslong as your tranny is still shifting properly then it should be fine, try getting a fluid flush and a new filter and new fluid and that should fix it up, thats what i did with my 96 astros and that cured them both

NO REVERSE FORWARD GEARS WORK. IS THERE A BAND AJUSTMENT FOR REVERSE ?IF I PUSH IT OFF IT WORKS BUT SLIPS

I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX, it shifts normal on forward with no problem. Also when the car is cold the reverse gear works just fine, but when the car runs for about few minutes the reverse gear will not work. It will seem as if it wants to go but then if feels like its neutral.
