Re: cant start dont take ekc what now
Have you followed the instructions with regards the EKA code? You have to enter the code, then you should hear a noise, two chirps is correct code, one is incorrect. You then have to wait 5 minutes till the dash light stops flashing. You then have a 30 second window to open the door and start the vehicle before the engine is immobilised. Do not open the car during the 5 minute window. It's detailed in the manual btw.

you will have to take the vehicle to someone with the capabilities to reprogram the keys to the vehicle either a vw dealer or someone who has vagcom it is the only way there is no shortcut or bypass to program the keys you need a scantool for vw
If disco is automatic move the transfer lever from high to low box and back again firmly then the key will come out there is a safety feature on the autos to prevent the key being removed if the transfer box is not in either high or low correctly with most dicso;s the transfer shift lever is stiff. through lack of use .once it is pushed in properly the key will release it works every time and I have had four v8 autos
basically you cant remove the key because even though the gearbox is in park if the transfer gears are not fully home the park sensor on the gearbox thinks it is out of gear eg not in park so wont let you remove the key and leave the car out of gear in case it rolls away .Dan
Sometimes the alarm thinks the pos. battery cable has been cut so it kills the ighition. You will have to look in the manual to see how to reset the alarm. You may need a code. If its not the alarm, you may have blown a fuse or worse, fried the computer when you put the alt. in. start at the begining. Check the battery cable connections, battery voltage, alt. wires and connections. if the headlighys work but the car won't start, it's prob. not a "connection" problem.
Well, you may not need to take it to a dealer if you have the EKA code. Firstly, pop a new battery in the fob. Get the vehicles battery charged up or changed. Now we can enter the EKA. Close all the doors. Turn the key in the driver door lock to the unlock position and hold there for at least 5 seconds until the alarm sounds once. Then return to centre - always ensure you return to centre and do not delay more than 10 seconds between turns, or hold in the position for more than 5 seconds or you will reset to the start. Turn to full extent of travel. 1st Digit turn to unlock the number of times specified. 2nd Digit turn to lock the number of times specified. 3rd Digit turn to unlock the number of times specified. 4th Digit turn to lock the number of times specified. Finally turn to unlock once more. If it is correct a double bleep will sound (single bleep is incorrect code) You now have a 5 minute delay - don't open any doors. The anti-theft indicator will continue flashing once every 2 seconds for the five minute period. When this goes out, open the door and start within 30secs. After 3 failed attempts, the security system invokes a delay period of 10 mins during which the system will not accept any further attempts to enter a code.
