Question about 2001 Ford Taurus

No heat inside of vehicle. The engine temp. is fine, however, the hot/cold setting does not seem to close not allowing heat to run through the heater core. Thanks Joe.

My 1997 Plymouth Voyager has air but the heat won't blow when switched on, only cold air.


Start your vehicle and let it reach normal operating temperature. Then, look for heater hoses that run into firewall. Carefully, grab both hose, they should be warm/hot. If only one is hot,could be clogged heater core, T-stat could be bad or mechanical component that allows warm coolant to run thru, is not working properly.
When you change setting inside, your heater and A/C panel, from cold to hot setting, do you hear anything ? There's a flap that opens and closes the coolant passage. This can be a mechanical or electronic operated component.

Symtoms of faulty thermostat water


Before answering that, the thermostat keeps the water in the engine until a specified temp inside the engine normaly around 190 degrees..then opens up to cool through the Collins system and allows hot water to the heater core inside the vehicle....Two major symptoms are engine over heating number one..Cold weather engine is hot but no or very little warmth of the radiator hoses with no heat to heater core inside the car..Not an exoensuve part or a hard job,,most are located at the bottom of the top hose where it connects to tne top of the engine..good luck

It could be your thermostat inside your radiator hose. They are a common thing to fail, but luckily relatively cheap and easy to DIY with some automotive background. Thermostats usually work with a spring that allow them to have a closed "door" while your car is still cold working its way to optimum operating temperature. (Usually around 200°F depending on vehicle. You can check with a parts store for your thermostats rating) Once hot the thermostat opens to keep the engine from continuing to get hotter to the point of overheating. When a therm. gets stuck in the open then your vehicle will usually not allow cabin heat in efforts of keeping emissions down. Cold running engines produce more hydrocarbons = not environmentally friendly.

Cold air only from heater


first check temp gauge on dash is it normal if so termostat is fine than check the heater hoses going inside from engine compartment if they are hot rule out control valve if it in the engine compartment sit in the vehicle and listen for any noise when you move heater temp switch from cold to hot if you hear clicking noises and no change it may be blend door accutator with moves when you slide or turn heat control nob the heater may have to be removed on some models eexpensive repair may be needed

The heater only blows cold air,the radiator is full,thermastat is working and the engine temp is within normal ranges.


I've had this problem. 2000 GMC uses a closed coolant system. Meaning takes and returns coolant from and to the Reserve Bottle and has little air in the engine and heater systems.
If everything appears ok but no heat. "Air Lock" is the most likely cause. (With interior heater set to full heat) Solution; 1. Make sure water pump works. 2. Drain about 1/2 engine coolant into container. 3 Remove both heater hoses from engine side and flush heater core in both directs through heater hoses with garden hose. 4. Reattach heater hoses in correct locations. 4. Refill engine with coolant. 5 Start engine and run for 2 min., use caution when topping up coolant.
6. Most 2000 GMC have twist off caps with plugs located mid way on heater hoses. with engine cold, start engine these caps may be loosened to allow trapped air to escape. Do not attempt with engine hot due to hot coolant injuries. This may take more than one attempt to remove all air from heat system. 7. Lastly most 2000 GMC water pumps have a bleeder plug,( 3/8" square driver plug) located on the water pump. With egine cold this plug should be removed to remove any air. Reinstall plug with thread sealant.

I have a 2006 Xterra and heater just blows cold air and the service engine soon light is on. Just happen I came in from work everything works fine but 8 hours later my heater/defroster just blows cold air....

This could also trigger a code that could set your check engine light. Before you go changing anything you should stop at an auto part shop where they can check what codes are stored for free. Codes aren't black and white though so do some research after as well.

A bad thermostat would set codes such as

•P1221
•P0128

the blendor actuators strip out the gear inside the actuator cases on these all the time. replace the actuator.

1989 maxima no heat in vehicle


Put your hand on the heater hoses as close to the fire wall as possible find out if both hoses are hot.Do this when the vehicle is cold allow car to heat up with heater open and running.If both equaly hot then heater core at fault.If different check water supply to cold hose.
