Question about 1996 Nissan Pickup
My brother in law rolled it on its top. Now when you start it it sounds fine at an Idle but when you add rpms it starts knocking loudly. The more rpms the louder it knocks.
Any ideas what this might be?
Sounds like you may have some sloppy piston and piston cam slap.
Option One -
Drain 2 quarts of oil and try adding the drained amount as a 40-50 weight oil in the engine to test. Nothing will be hurt on a older engine.
use a funnel or a mechanical listening tool and put it against the engine.
You can use a solid stick 2-4 feet long so your not too close to the engine and the other end against your ear, while listening. It is like listening to a heart beat and the closer you get to the sound the closer you are to pinpointing where it is.
My guess is you will hear it at a lower part of the engine.
If the noise is coming from the Valve covers, then you will need a valve job and there is lots more to it. The 1996 is an easy engine to work on.
