does it have coil packs? you may need to replace one

Service engine soon light on; diagnostic code states: cylinder 7, Misfire

you need to have your engine tuned up, unless it's been done recently. misfire means it's not getting fire or fuel to #7 plug. you may have a plug wire bad or a bad spark plug on #7 if you go to effort of sending it to garage just to replace one plug or wire, you'll pay labor for whole tune up. wires, plugs, and maybe a bad coil pack. suggest you have tuned up with new plugs and wires. also while they are there, have them check fire to #7 plug on coil first before you do a complete tune up. thank you for choosing fixya.com

4.7l V-8---error code P0308 is being displayed---about a year ago, I replaced the plugs and all 8 coil packs---thanks

Hi. This P0308 code means that the the PCM has detected that one of the engine's cylinders are not firing properly. In this case it will be cylinder Number 8.

A code P0308 may indicate that one or more of the following has occurred:

1 Faulty spark plug or wire
2 Faulty coil (pack)
3 Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
4 Faulty fuel injector
5 Burned exhaust valve
6 Faulty catalytic converter(s)
7 Running out of fuel
8 Poor compression
9 Defective computer

If there are no symptoms, the first thing to do is to reset the code, with a code reader, and see if it comes back. If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the affected cylinder and plug/coil assembly. Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs-COP-). In some cases, the catalytic converter has collapsed. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your converter may need to be replaced. I've also been told several times that the problem in this case could be a faulty injector at that cylinder 8.

My Sentra is overheating. I changed the Thermostat before taking it to the local Autozone and have the check engine light checked out. Well I was told there after scanning the computer that it is a MISFIRE...

First step is new plugs. It's possible that you have a fouled #1 plug. If that doesn't work, check spark wires (if the car is so equipped) or if it has direct coil-on-plug ignition, where each cylinder has a coil pack on top of the plug, swap the coil packs between cylinders 1 and 2. Clear the code, run the car, and rescan the computer. If the code moves to indicate cylinder 2 misfiring, then your coil pack needs to be replaced.

Truck not firing properly front coil pack not firing at all.

if this truck has an o2 sensor i would replace that and also make sure the cat-converter is not plugged, this would give you your powerloss and egr code, next is your coil, this may be caused by the computer or your crank sensor, look at the tone ring that the crank sensor uses and make sure its not missing teeth or broken, also check all your fuses.

2001 ford e250 service engine light is on. computer shows cylinder #7 misfire code.

A code P0307 Cylinder #7 Misfire may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Ford mustang - year 2000 - 3.8 liter. The coil pack is out?

I replaced the coil pack to no avail. I also purchase a code reader while at the auto parts store. This device told me cylinder 3 was misfiring (P0303). I found that the spark plug wire had shorted out on the manifold sensor tubes. Replaced that wire and done.

I highly recommend keeping a code reader in your car tool kit. very useful.

I have a 2001 Santa Fe and the Engine light is lit and has been for many years. When I took the vehicle for the State Inspection I was told that the Co2 needed to be changed so the light would come off and...

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
