I would start with a good tune up, including the intake gasket. Changes in temperature could cause gaskets to stop sealing properly letting unmeasured air inside the engine. Also check for fuel filter.

Check the Fuel injection system (injectors) and the intake manifold. It might also be wise to check the alternator as well as the starter coil and also the electronic distributor

SOURCE: how do i replace the fuel pump in my 1993 mazda 626 2.5

1. Relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. If not already removed, depress the clips on each end of the rear seat cushion and remove the cushion.

3. If not already done, detach the electrical connector from the fuel pump/sending unit.

4. Remove the attaching screws from the fuel pump/sending unit access cover and remove the cover.

5. Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel pump/sending unit.

6. Remove the attaching screws and the fuel pump/sending unit from the fuel tank.

7. Detach the sending unit electrical connector, remove the sending unit attaching nuts and remove the sending unit from the fuel pump assembly.

To install:

1. Attach the sending unit to the fuel pump assembly and install the nuts. attach the sending unit electrical connector.

2. Install the fuel pump/sending unit into the fuel tank with a new gasket and install the mounting screws.

3. Connect the fuel supply and return lines.

4. Install the access cover and the mounting screws.

5. Attach the sending unit electrical connector.

6. Position the rear seat cushion over the floor, making sure to align the retaining pins with the clips. Push down firmly until the two retaining pins are locked into the rear seat retaining clips.

7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for proper system operation and for fuel leaks.

SOURCE: 91 mazda 626 erractic idle surge when engine is cold

My '91 626 did the same thing. I tested the throttle position sensor, and it was good so that wasn't it. The other likely culprit is the Idle Speed Control valve, or Idle Air Control valve, which is a $500 part new (more than I paid for the whole car). I pulled one off a 626 at the salvage yard and got it for 3 bucks, put it on (it's an easy DIY, just 4 philips screws holding it to the intake manifold), however I can't be sure that solved the problem, since I haven't run the car much since then. It would seem the most likely cause, tho, and a cheap fix if you go used. Other possibilities: O2 sensor or Mass Air Flow sensor?

Try scraping your new key's edge. Its possible that the steering lock may be slightly worn [to your old keys] and the new key may be sticky in the lock mechanism. Also try squirting a little lubricating greece into the lock mechanism.
