Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Galant

I've got a squeaky belt upon starting the 2001 Galant

I've got a squeaky belt upon starting the Galant in cold weather primarily. However, it will persist sometimes if the heater is running or I come to a stop and accelerator after. This could be a number of things ranging from alternator belt, to serpentine belt, AC condenser, timing belt or a pulley and bearings. It can even interfere w/ headlights and seems to be worse if the headlights are on. Is it as simple as a loose belt needing tightened or complicated like worn bearings???

It was the serpentine belt that was to blame. After tightening, the problem has resolved and since hasn't made a peep. Thanks for your response

There should only be about 1/2" deflection on the belts if you push down with your fingers. If they are ok i would suggest you investigate your alternator first , then last resort water pump bearing.(new water pump)

Check your belts Are they worn or out of place on pulleys? Try using a wax crayon on belts to quiet them

My 2000 BMW 328i has a horrible squeaky noise when it is cold and stops after about 15 minutes what is the problem and how do I fix it?

I assume that the squeaky noise stops after 15 minutes, not the engine. If that is the case, you may have a very worn belt. This won't cost you a ton of money. You have a serpentine belt on your car, so that is a likely culprit. You may also have a bad battery, which in cold weather would perhaps have just enough to start the car but would also demand the alternator (and by extension, the belt) to provide enough amps to recharge the battery after a severe draw,
Before the winter, I recommend a new serpentine belt and a new battery, after a test of your alternator output and the battery at a good shop. You should not expect to spend more than $200 max, if everything is wrong.

The truck has squeaky belts, especially in cold-wet weather. They don't appear to be cracked or worn, or loose. They seem to get louder when the engine is fully warm. The power steering is full of fluid

Belts still could still be in need of replacing, but try this, apply axle grease,or bearing grease o the under side of all the belts,a lot of it,this is the side the pulleys come into contact with, close the hood and start the engine, the belts will not make a sound after you do this,it will last a good long time.

2000 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl ES underhood squeal on right side

The probable causes are: 1. The drive belts are slipping. 2. The drive pulleys for some engine accessories are misaligned. 3. You have turned the steering wheel to the limits. 4. The drive belts are loose.5. Your brake drum backing plates are rubbing against the brake drum. The brakes also might be a problem. check the brake drums/discs. Finally check your wheel and wheel alignment.

Be gentle with my rating. I am a long ways away. It sounds like a fan belt. You should pop the hood next time and see how it sounds when you have the squeeling going on. Fan belts will squeel until the get warmed up and then stop because the heat makes them grab the way they are ment too. Let me know, Raz

have the ECT checked,
Engine coolant temperature, lets the computer know whether it should push more fuel thru for cold mornings ,
the sensor could be telling the computer that your engine temp is 75 degrees, means less fuel being pushed

You may be hearing the oil pump. Sometimes it will do that due to cold weather you should use a lighter oil so your engine doesnt have to work so hard.
