Dead stock, 125,000 miles & electric push button 4x4, I bought this truck a few weeks ago from Florida coastal town, and the front hubs won't disengage. So the truck is getting 10 mpg, I have a friend that has the same truck w/454 & 4:10's that's getting 11 mpg. I suspect there is some electrical oxidation, that may be the root of the problem. But, I don't know where electrical connections, fuses, servos/actuators, etc. are on this truck as it didn't even have an owners manuel. Even if I can just disable the 4x4 or front hubs, I can't even afford to drive it to work.
Please Help!!!!!

Take your positive cable off battery and wait a few minutes..This resets the computer and takes it out of limp mode.Theres been a lot of problems in the dash so if you can find an auto zone and have them scan it They'll do it for free. But as far as the lights my truck does the same thing. Just flick your fingers on the buttons and they should flash..The plug in the back of buttons was loose..

the connections near the front axle that activate the motor to engage the system aren't melted? That's a comon problem for that body style. If there good, sounds like it could be that motor itself. To figure out if it's you motor or transfercase, jack up the rear end, have a friend inside shift into 4 wheel drive, or try to, and put it in gear and apply some gas. If the front driveshaft is turning then it's something with the front end. If not, farther back in the system.

I have found that when you are going to engauge 4x4 high, it is best to only be going about 3 miles an hour. Not faster, not stopped. It likes some movement to help it mesh. I've had perfect shifts since I started this. Hope it helps. Wade.

The brake calipers will need to come off which is the hardest part for most. Have a " C" Clamp with an 8 inch throat is needed so you can press the brake pads inward to release pressure from the rotor. Upon removing the caliper the saddle if so equipt has to be unbolted from the steering knuckle. Two bolts hold this saddle on. You may not have one depending on the design caliper this truck has. Once these parts are off the rotor will come off
