It could be the temperature switch (electronic thermostat). on some cars the fan has two speeds and i've seen one of these break where it kicks in for the slower speed but not when the car heats up further (which is really bad) try changing that with an oem or very good part.

I drive a mk3 golf GTI 8V and mine starts fine but after driving for about 3 minutes (engine warms up) it starts to misfire, the car stalls and then you can't start it again until the engine has cooled. Does this sound similar?

Golf gti left rear door locking system

it is probably your door lock has gone into safe mode.you need a new door lock.try using the lock/unlock button on your remote or on the drivers door button and gently tap the door handle with your hand while pressing the lock/unlock button, carefull not to dent your car.if that does not work, try disconnecting the cars battery for a few minutes, but note the vehicle might pick up fault codes which need a diagnostic machine to clear...good luck

I have a mk3 golf gti 2.0 engine stops when i slow down or stop at a junction . it idles ok when stationary but after being driven it doesnt idle

Add a can of SEAFOAM to gas. Replace fuel filter(will have goop in it). replace fuel filter before next 500 miles. Add SEAFOAM every 3000 miles after that, and that should fix 99% of the problem. good luck.

1991 vw golf gti- RPM stop working!

judging by the amount of km it has done i would say the rpm drive is faulty, this measures the amount of rotation in the camshaft and shows the "revolutions per minute". when this goes faulty it stops the read out on the dial, so you want to be looking for a device that measures the speed that the engine is turning, if you have, replace it and it should solve the problem

Sounds like you may need a new Thermostat.

Get a Haynes or Chilterns manual and a new Thermostat for the carfrom a car parts place like Autozone. Its normally a simple opperation to change it.
