Is the check engine light on? Any more specific info like year, make, model, what color the smoke is, how many miles, etc........ This could help to narrow down the problem other than the smoke which all diesels do with quick acceleration. You might get a quicker answer if you are more detailed!

Tractor has been stood, had new head gasket but smokes white smoke and loses power when warm. What is wrong with it.. Any ideas..

Run a radiator pressure test or test for carbon monoxide vapor in the radiator. You have a cracked head or block if the head gasket was installed correctly. Note the installation would include measuring the block and head for warp.

6.9 litre diesel losing power over last few days of driving, changed fuel filter no difference, cannot get enough speed up to allow trany to shift, bogging bad. and blowing blue when reved, not black....

Blue smoke is oil. With blue smoke and no power you should take the truck to a diesel reair shop to have it looked at. It could be that the valves need adjusting or it could be broken rings or a cracked piston, all of which are beyond the scope of online diagnosis. With a diagnosis in hand, you should pick up a copy of Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part #10330. It can help if you think you want to attempt the repairs yourself. Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem - though my timing is right exactly where it should be

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the build up of carbon in the manifold... the smoke has a blue gray hue as well and defiantely smells like diesel

But I'm also zen with the fact that there's always going to be smoke upon a cold start up... it's the price you pay for a diesel... now if I can just get it back up to 50mpg instead of the 44 I've been getting I'll be happier

has the car been eating anti-freeze? have you noticed any smoke from the tail-pipe? if the problem hasn't been found during a routine check, it's time to look deeper. where i'm going with this is a headgasket. keep an eye on your coolant level.
