Question about 2001 Nissan Quest
Feels like my engine is stuttering and that it's going to stall on me any minute (it hasn't). Just started doing this today. Manual says it's a signal of an emission system problem. Checked the gas cap is tight. Any easy fixes or do I have to take it in...... agh.
You may need to take it to a professional. Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The list of possible codes number in the hundreds. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, or what engine parameter is out of normal range. A technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint cause and the proper repair. He will have the special equipment to check for emission problems. Even if you reset the light, if the underlying problem is not addressed it will come back on.

When the engine runs rough and the light flashes, it is indicating a misfire. If you drive it like that long enough it will foul up the emission control system and the light will stay on solid. You need a tune up and then you may need new O2 Sensors.

Had this problem almost a year ago. I did a complete tune up and it didnt fix the problem. Had a technician check it and he got some codes. Fixed the problems but it still ran like a misfire and the engine light was blinking.. decided it may be a injector and replaced them. Still the same problem didnt go away. We narrowed it down to what cylinder was causing the problem. We removed the old new spark plug wire and put the exact same old one back on and it ran smooth for almost 1 year..now im having the same problem again, but i had the timing belt and water pump replaced about 3 months ago. But since there were no engine lights on and it ran great before and after this i cant see how it would be that. I just did a complete tune up again to eliminate those issues and still the same problem again. Im sick of nissan and its problems! Over the past year i have put over 2000.00 into it and its the same problem again...
