You've probably allowed the crankshaft to move while you had the belt off, putting the timing out by a small amount. There will be some kind of marks top and bottom somewhere to align before you put the belt backon. I need to do this preventative maintenance on my 406 2litre diesel - I'm trying to work out how difficult it is!

Distributer cap

the cap has no setting
oops you mean you pulled off all the wires and not 1 by 1,
and scrambled the firing order, ooops.

but i can help you because you didnt name the exact engine in car.
no one can,.
86 is old car. skip diesel. so 4 engines.

1.8 L I4 gasoline (1S-L,-LU)
1.8 L I4 gasoline (1S-iLU)
2.0 L I4 gasoline (2S-EL,-ELC,-ELU)
2.0 L I4 gasoline (3S-GELU)
1.8 L I4 diesel turbo (1C-TL,-TLC)
2.0 L I4 diesel turbo (2C-TL,-TLC)

or log in to alldata.com and see the 2 engines and dizzy caps
and where #1 cap rotor location is, and what direction rotor turns
the latter is easy look while cranking.

for me, i just set the crank to #1 firing mark, AND all intake valves closed. (4 ways to do that) and take off the CAP
bingo #1 is THERE.
then lay them down 1,3,4,2 order
in the natural rotation order (crank it to see)
bam your running.

this works on all dizzy cars only firing order and rotation direction changes, among engines..

I have a Citroen Diesel ZX19 Turbo. It is Very hard to start when cold and takes a two or three goes to start when hot.I have replaced Glow plugs with Bosch ones from a Citroen dealer only a month ago plus...

Did the poor starting coincide with the cambelt change ,as it sounds like you may have a camshaft/fuel pump timing issue. If the pump/camshaft/crankshaft are not locked in place when you change the belt they can easily move a tooth or two.If the problem didnt coincide with the belt change then it might be a fuel problem.

On a 2001 mazda bravo turbo disel when do I have to change the timming belet it's done 176000 ks

Hi there,

Without knowing which diesel engine you have, I'll have to guess that you have a 2.5L (B2500) - Note: the more detailed information you give us, the more accurate our answers will be :-)

As a general rule, cambelts (with tensioner assembly & seals) have a limited life and should always be replaced every 100,000km, or sometimes earlier depending on manufacturer. The reasoning behind this is that most engines will suffer major internal damage if the cambelt snaps (this is what is meant by 'Interference' engines). As the engine has to be opened up to carry out this service, it can be a costly maintenance. For this reason, it is also common to replace the waterpump at the same time (to avoid having to open up the engine again) as waterpumps have been known to fail beyond 100,000km.

The good news....if you DO have a 2.5L (B2500) engine, then this engine is a NON interference engine - which means, if the cambelt did snap, your engine would not suffer any internal damage, compared to interference engines.

Hope this helps.....

Disable passenger airbag on 1998 Peugeot 406

hi there should be a lock barrel somewhere in the front of the carit will be eithe rin the glove box, on the side of the dashboard on the passanger side, in the center console near the handbrake or to the lower right of thr steering wheel on the dashboard
with this you can use your car key to turn off the passanger air bag off (note- this will put the airbag light on)

hope this helps

No acceleration, minimal movement of accelerator pedal.

hi, test your turbo pipes,
these are common to split, its the big fat pipe o/s is the 1 that splits, feel around it im sure it has a large split. to test the turbo squeeze that large pipe and get some 1 to rev, it has to inflate very hard and open your hand, if not listen for hissing if not check the turbo and air filter as might be sucked up, again its common
