Question about 1984 Porsche 944

Porsche 944 not firing

I am looking at purchasing a car from someone however they say that the car is not working due to an alarm issue. When I asked what it was they said the car will not fire because of the alarm. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

take out the alarm lol. it is very tricky but there is a constant power wire that you would have to find in order to disconnect this. I don't know what type of security system it is but if you can find that out then i could help you find out a general location of where it might be.

Hi, On early cars they normally cut the power to the coil. Check if there is any power getting to the coil. If not take a wire from the live battery terminal to the coil. That should get it running and enable you to drive the car away to get someone to carry out a repair.

Not much left unchanged is there and no doubt you have done compression testing on all 4 cylinders as well. (If not you need to). I assume it is cranking over normally with the starter motor but not firing.

I would try one of the Porsche Owners Forums for this as one of the other 944 owners there should be able to help..... Like this one..................

Where is the ignition module on a 1983 porsche 944

It should be located under the distributar cap if I am thinking of the correct part you are asking about.
It should be a half moon looking little black box about the size of your thumb depending on how big your thumb is.

Find and remove the horn fuse or relay to keep the horn from blasting and attempt to start the vehicle. If it starts inspect the clearance between the horn switch and its ground contact. If there is a factory alarm, which I doubt, that has been reset by disconnecting the battery/battery going dead then call your local Porsche dealer for additional advice.

It's kind of crazy to think of it now, but back in the 80's, Porsche thought this was the most stylish practical place to put the switch for the alarm system. Some of them have it, some don't, as it was an option.

HI

I'd definitely check the fuel pump, had a similiar fault with mine, all seemed ok until upon closer inspection there was a hairline facture around the inlet pipe on the pump which was drawing in air and losing the pressure in the fuel system
