I own a 97 Chevy Blazer 4WD, when turning the key to the "ON" position the dashboard indicator lights do not turn on immediatly (average 10 second delay) or a few instances at all. Obviously I cannot start the vehicle when this problem occurs but when the lights due come on you can hear the fuel pump kick in and the dash lights up; the car starts right up.
Also it has died while driving, sometimes shuts down completely on others just a second or two then runs fine. Other then that the car runs perfect. Thank you in advance for your help.

On the kick board on the passengers side take the kick board off and there is a metal box with two nuts , take the nuts off unplug the box get a can of electronic cleaner spray at any auto shop. Spray the contacts on the box and spray the plug, let dry a few minutes and plug it in before you bolt it up start the Blazer and push the 2wd button it should light up. In my 2000 blazer I have to shut the motor off turn the key forward until the dash lights turn on
to get it out of 4wd . If that doesn't work go to www.youtube.com/watch and type in your problem click go and there is videos you can watch, that is what I do when something goes wrong with my Blazer, Also there is a
Transfer Case Vacuum Switch that is probably bad it is hard to get to it is on top of the transmission it has three vacuum hoses one vacuum nose for 2wd 4wd and4wd low range. just a couple things you can check that usually fix this type of problem, I think the whining you hear is being in transfer case the book says this vehicle is not intender to operate at high speeds in 4wd.
does it have a chip key?
and does your dash lights come on when you turn the key on?
if it doesnt have a chip key and the dash lights come on then turn the key too run position put on the ememency brake and try jumping across the starter, if it startes the probleb is in the netural safty switch!!
have fuel pressure tested has to be over 80psi mine was doing same thing first fuel pump had installed went bad after 3 months guy didnt change filter in tank.mechanic said never let go past quarter tank!
if the key is getting stuck its the Brake Shift Interlock Solenoid its just under the ignition switch you have a short in it you can unplug it or replace it what its doing is over heating the solenoid and at times it can drain your battry.and for the trans acting up you could have a short to one of your solenoids or it could be the trans filter.
There are no free full diagrams on the net, you need to charge and test the battery, clean the battery cables and run a voltage drop test as well, replace them if the are badly corroded. Kragen will test the battery for free.
