Question about 1992 Buick Roadmaster

1992 Buick Century tail & dask lights went out - blow fuses

Dash lights went out first, then the tail lights. Brake light works! We had a mechanic check today, and he cannot find the problem.

Anyone figure this out??

Thanks,
Son's mom

    Hi csmock132,

Thanks. Yep, fuses were checked; tried new headlight switch, and that didn't work. Do you mean the power feed to the headlight switch. Don't know if that was done.

Wonder what else could be w

If you could e-mail a wiring diagram for testing, that would be terrific; is that car make/model specific?

Wow, wouldn't that be cool if I could help resolve my 21 year old college son's issue and present to a mechanic; they would think I was pretty doggone smart!

Really appreciate all of this; car no good without back lights, for sure. Wonder why problem isn't being discovered!

  • cookie2729 Mar 02, 2009

Will get power leads checked; everytime that the headlights are turned on; it blows the fuse for taillights. Dashlights defnitely don't work.

Yes, please send the diagram; it is a 3.3 engine 92 Buick Century.-- My e-mail address is tgelack@yahoo.com

Thanks for taking you time after Monday's workday. My husband then would be the one that would be guided through the test procedure. Maybe that should be the woman of the house--(ho ho ho)--You sound very caring and pretty amazing, SO FAR.

    Very much appreciated.

    Hi there,

Nothing was received. Try another e-mail address: t.gelack@usa.net

    Thanks for all.

  • cookie2729 Mar 03, 2009

I believe that the inside car light works; think there's only one that lights up on the top/ not exactly sure; can't get in it this evening to look but almost sure. The dash lights don't work though.

When you turn on the headlights, the tailllight fuse blows.

Don't believe that there was any type of stereo installed.

I was able to print. Another mechanic to look at it at 5 p.m. Denver time tomorrow.

I would imagine the mechanic checked the fuses, so i would say it has a bad headlight switch or the power feed to it.

You need to check the power wire to the headlight switch for the taillights I'm not sure what color it is but I might be able to email you a wiring diagram for testing.

I will have to look up the diagram Monday at work and try to Email it after work. Then I can walk you through the test procedure. It is a 1992 century with what engine? Also what is your email address?

The only way I could figure out how to email it was to scan it, upload it on my myspace, then email it through myspace.

After looking at the diagram, I need to ask do the dome lights work? You said it blows the taillight fuse when you turn on the headlight switch?

Does it have an aftermarket stereo in it and did this problem start after it was installed?

If you look at the diagram you can isolate the dash lights, radio, and all the illumination lights away from the Front, rear and plate light at the back of the headlight switch. Do that and put the fuse in, If it blows the problem is in the front, rear, or plate light circuit. If it does it is a problem with dash lights or illumination. This will narrow down your seach. Do this and let me know, then we'll go deeper. Don't worry, you'll figure it out.

Dash and tail lights not workjng brake and turn signal on passanger side not working

The dash and tail lights are on two different circuits, and the brake and turn signals are on different circuits, so at least 4 circuits total.
I would start at the headlight switch and check for power on the first two issues.

check park/tail fuse regarding dash ,park ,tail problem .brake light on passenger side is probably the brake globe needs replacing .Turn signals on passenger side could be globes or switch, check globes first ,if globes and fuse are ok ,may well be the switch especially if park switch and turn signals are on the same switch lever/stalk

1995 buick century, interior lights& tail lights not woring

Your interior lights fuse is powered by the tail/park lamp fuse, that way you know when your parking lamps are not working. Your interior lights probably went at the same time, but you noticed them first. Most likely, you have a blown park/tail lamp fuse. Check the fuse first, replace it if it's open. If it blows again, you have a short in the park lamp circuit.

Tail lights wont come on

two places left drivers side under the dash are on the side of the dash by the door for the interior, some cars have them on the right side of the dash also. There is also another fuse box under the hood. If you have your owners manual this is all listed in it, and the exact fuse location for your breaklights, I think your will be on the drivers side interior Hope this helps you! Merry Christmas and God Bless!
