1996 Buick LeSabre Skipping and Jerking While in Motion (Driving)

Hello, My name is Bonnie and I live in Layton, Utah. A single parent raising a teenage daughter; living in a HUD Apt. for low income families. The other day, the CHANGE OIL SOON light turned on, so I have an appt. to get my oil changed in a day or two. However, as I was driving through town I came upon a stop sign. I stopped, then proceeded to accelerate... then all the sudden my car started skipping and or jerking as if it wanted to stall (hesitance) Like it was skipping a heart beat. It was acting as if the gasoline was not cycling through its route like it should. ( I figured maybe I had pumped some "bad gas"). Then my inside dash light became dimmer and I knew I was going to lose all power. So, as I tried pulling off to the side of the road still in a skipping and jerking motion and my foot still on the gas pedal and the motor still running, it stopped moving. It didn't stall but it wanted to. It just stopped movement and losing all power quickly. I turned my car off for a few minutes then restarted it to head for home which was about 1.5 miles away and it being 2:00 A.M. I wasn't about to walk alone and have my car stranded. So, my car and I proceeded to hesitantly skip and **** home to where it's now parked and sits and going nowhere. Now I'm wondering... how I'm going to get it to the repair shop for a full service oil change and whatever else it is that is causing this problem, to be fixed. Can't afford a tow but i'll get it to the shop one way or another. If the diagnosis is known I would be forever greatful for the over-all repair and labor cost. (round-about figure, est. amount). PLEASE REPLY ASAP, Thank-You! Sincerely, Bonnie

First check the battery connections then charge the battery if u can have some body check the charging system meaning the alternator. To see if u have enough voltage to run the electrical system should be around 13- 14 volts.

hi kelley, it may be a bad ignition coil or a load of other causes. can you make it to an advanced auto parts or autozone and have the codes stored in you car read for free? that should give a good clue on what direction to go from here.

I have 1990 buick lesabre limited when i let it coast at speeds of 45-60 when it is decelerating it the car makes a jerking motion and the rpms jump down to 1200 to 1000 then back to 1200 i highly doubt...

It may be downshifting harshly, and that's not a good sign. Check the level and condition of your transmission fluid. It should be clear red or pink. If it is dark or has a funny smell, change the fluid and filter. That often helps an ailing transmission. It's a pretty easy, straightforward procedure for people who work on their own cars. A shop with a lift could probably do it in one hour.

Grand marquis jerks in all gears 85.000 miles

It could be the converter is going bad or a sensor.next time you are driving it and it is jerking put your foot on the brake pedal, dont put the brakes on like you are trying to stop just push lightly on the pedal. This unlockes the converter.if it stops jerking you have a bad converter or a sensor related to it.

After I figured out how to address these problems I was thjen able to install my new water pump. To assit other LeSabre owners, I posted the actual process on the web. See the attached link for my solution ("Deano/Illinois") and several other comments from other Buick LeSabre owners. The entire process will take you about three hours. Good Luck!

Parts and labor cost

I had a local for dealer look at my 2005 Crown Vic due to sevice engine light coming on. Was told "coil asy" on two spark plugs was bad & need to be replaced. Being a loyal customer of this dealership I OK'd the repair. The cost were $171.00 for coil asy & $185.16 for two spark plugs. Was I ripped off or what?
