Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

My Jimmy starts sometimes. When it doesn't, I wait about 20 minutes and try again and then it will start. I've replaced the battery, cables, starter, ignition switch. What next??

If the starter is the original, it may be time for a replacement.

Engine won't start, starter makes rattling sound

sounds like the battery disharged. If the key was on along with the lights than 20 minutes would be enough to drain the battery. Try a jump start. it should get you going. I would have the battery tested after driving for at least an hour at highway speeds just to make sure it is good.

I assume you checked the fuel pressure and it is normal.
Are the spark plugs getting spark when it fails to start ?
Are you getting injector pulse from the computer ?
Any trouble codes stored in the computer ?

Won't crank

Take mass air flow sensor off and clean the inside with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and allow to dry for 15 minutes then re-install.

2000 GMC Jimmy-when weather is really cold will not start, meaning will not turn over. Does not make any grinding sound, any clicking sound, battery replaced just a few months ago. After trying to start...

Sounds like a stater issue. Probably needs a new starter. My 1990 was a bear to start when the starter started having issues. Could be as simple as replacing the battery ends to ensure proper connection. My nest bet would be to double check the battery. I have bought many brand new batteries and they were bad. Just a simple check will tell you a lot. Next would be the starter. Hope this helps.

After you turn off the car you have to wait for about 20 minutes to start it again - even when its not hot. It tries to turn over but won't start.

You need to check battery and all battery connections first ,but I'm 98 % sure you have a bad starter ,the exact same thing happened to me after replacing starter no more problems
