1993 Cutlass Cierra 3.1 Overheats

I have a 1993 cutlass Cierra with a 6 cyl. 3.1 engine. It overheats after 5- 10 min . The radiator and hoses are not hot. Thermostat right? Wrong! I have tried 2 new thermosats and still overheats. I thought some kind of airlock, so I used the air bleeder on the Tstat housing. Still no good. Could it be a bad Water pump? Does anybody know if these are particularly suseptable to corrosion problems? I wondered if the impeller is shot? I am about to try leaving the stat out?
Help!

I pulled the thermostat. It doesn't overheat now. I also removed the hose above the head to purge more air. Somebody said , I got a bad head gasket? Tomorrow I will reinstall thermostat, purge from uppermost hose again, and cross my fingers. I found a nifty combustion gas leak detector to check for bad head gasket, but not sure if I wanna blow $40 on one just yet.

Does there seem to be alot of pressure on hoses, when you squeeze them ? ive seen impellars on the water pump cause this, but not very often. a possible air lock can be a pain. a trick is to jack front end of car up to a point engine is tilted back a bit. it helps the bubble in finding its way out. if this dosent work after a couple tries, id start to suspect headgasket issue allowing air into coolant. a tell tale of a head gasket would be a constant temp gauge fluxuation ( mid temp-hot mid to hot etc. ) let me know.

WHAT TYPE OF MOTOR OIL DO I USE AND HOW MANY QUARTS FOR 1993 OLDS CUTLASS SUPREME 3.4L

1993 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS 3.4L 6-cyl Engine Code [X] DOHC

5W30 for all temperatures, 10W30 for above 0*F.

Capacity is 5 qts. without filter change. Add extra oil when replacing filter.
I suggest adding in increments of 1/4 qt. (4oz.)at a time until "full" is indicated on the dipstick.
