Question about 2001 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

I have a 96 Tacoma and I have a miss fire issue also. the wierd thing is that when you clamp off the fuel return line it idles and revs pretty normal. but when driving it stumbles pretty bad. It is throwing P0300 along with P0302,304,306 multiple misfires.. Could this be caused by low fuel pressure... When you drive you can feel it misfire and then run right and then misfires. what do ya think...I cahnge the fuel reg to a differnt one (not a new one) and it helped a little but still runs bad.

Engine will not accelerate

If the pumps go bad this quickly I would make sure you have fuel pressure... it can idle on low fuel pressure but not accelerate...
It might be that the fuel line/filter is stopped up and cannot deliver the higher amount of fuel... also check if the fuel regulator is working it connected and holding vaccuum?

2001 Toyota Tacoma keeps stalling on start up.

Check the battery cables. I had the same issues with my 96 tacoma, The battery cable connection at the battery can be cranked down but still be loose. Hard to explain, doesn't make sense, but just check it out.

If you have a coolant sensor problem, as in reading wrong, and it tells your computer it is colder than it actually is,,,you will get more fuel delivery.

Spray the intake manifold on cylinder number where it bolts to the head with intake cleaner and see if the rpm's change and the miss goes away temporarily. There was a problem at the factory with the intake gasket being creased on cylinder number 1. This issue tends to be a lean misfire issue.

Is there any check engine lights on?The throttle position switch could be a problem, but so can fuel pressure.Fuel pressure is what I would check.Battery voltage and charging voltage needs to be checked,Battery voltage of course should be 12 volts. The charging voltage should be 13.65 to 14.25,and the battery cables cleaned real good and shiny.Does the vehicle start good,or drag when starting?See if auto zone will read the codes for you,and tell you what they are,but don`t purchase any parts until you come back to this site to see what the codes can actually mean.If the o2 sensor showed lean, then it is possible that the fuel pressure is low, fuel pump replacement will be a must. I hope this was helpful, but need information,so do these things and return to the site.thank you.

96 tayota tacoma, 2.7 4 wd, the engine is hard to start when the engine is hot. When cold the engine starts fine.

1. air filter dirty. 2. bad engine ground. 3. fuel filter 4. loose connection in ignition system. 5.faulty idle control system.

theres a couple things it could be 1. you could have low fuel line pressure which means fuel pump could be bad or a ground wire that runs to your fuel pump or your fuel pump regulator could be bad
